June 2016 What's been happening With Abba's Pride

WELCOME!

Welcome to the Abba's Pride June 2016 update, where we strive to do our best to share the story of Abba's Pride to people both near and far. We are excited you have taken the time to stop in and see what the Lord is doing! Our prayer is that this monthly update serves as a tool for you to not only learn more about Abba's Pride, but to better understand how to pray for this ministry!

THE PROBLEM

Thousands of children in South Africa live without parents or responsible adults in their homes. They are vulnerable, living in squatter and under-resourced communities. Many of the children are hungry and lacking basic necessities.

OUR VISION & MISSION

Our vision is: to see churches bring hope to their communities by nurturing and education children. Through this vision our mission is to come alongside churches in under-resourced areas to feed the bodies, minds, and spirits of those in their communities.

OUR SOLUTION

Abba’s Pride is committed to bringing the Hope of Christ to vulnerable children by coming alongside under-resourced churches, in order to help their congregations develop sustainable and reproducible ministries. These ministries aim to: feed hungry and malnourished children; equip early childhood centers for preschoolers; create after-school “Safe Zones” where children can receive food, tutoring, and spiritual education; intentionally disciple adults and coach them to be transformational leaders in their communities.

OUR BUSY SEASON IS HERE!

Our busy season has arrived! This year during our winter (most of your summer) months, Abba's Pride is hosting four teams as well as the launch of our new internship program, Serve South Africa. With June coming to an end, we've had our first team come and go and celebrated the arrival of our first interns!

Norfolk Christian School

Eleven missionaries from Norfolk Christian Schools joined us for 2 weeks of fantastic ministry in KwaMhlanga at Charity Christian Fellowship Church. Their time was spent primarily assisting the creche (preschool) teachers at the church as well as serving at a local primary school where they tutored and helped students prepare for their upcoming exams. After school was also a very busy time as nearly 80 students came to the church each day for soccer and additional tutoring. All of these opportunities allowed great relationships to be built and the gospel to be shared with the children of the community. We hope to continue to build on the momentum this team was able to build and establish a more permanent after school program in this community.

Team Member Testimonies

"God has taught me that there is more to life then what is on a TV screen. He has also taught me that love can go a long way by just showing love to someone."

"God has taught me to stretch myself and do things I'm not normally comfortable with. He is also taught me that I can conquer more than I think and I have more in me then I think."

"God showed me that doing simple things can mean a big deal to others. Also that even if you're out of your comfort zone, God can use you in big ways."

"On this trip I was taught how to fully depend on Christ. It was really difficult to be away from home and to be immersed in a new culture with a team of people I'd never really had a conversation with before. It was a really sweet time for my relationship with the Lord."

"God showed me the importance of daily devotional time. The days I had devotions I had better energy, mood and leadership of the team. Days without the devotions were the opposite."

The mission of the Serve South Africa Internship program is to develop young men and women into mature servants of God who are sensitive to cross-cultural ministry, to find where God is moving, join those who are serving and lead others to join in God's work. For six weeks a group of young adults will be lead by the Abba's Pride Serve South Africa Intern-Coordinators. They will be discipled, stretched, and encouraged in all areas of their lives. We are excited to be launching our first year of Serve South Africa with a great group of young adults!

MEET THE TEAM!

Greg and Annie Moses

Greg and Annie are teachers in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia Beach, VA. In 2010 they were a part of the ministry programs surrounding the Soccer World Cup at Eastside Community Church. Since their time in South Africa, Greg and Annie have had a passion and longing to continue their service in the under resourced communities surrounding Pretoria.

Greg’s passion for people is contagious and his love for the Lord is evident in the way he pursues Christ through his life. Annie’s heart to disciple and mentor young people is evident as she consistently strives for excellence in all areas of her life. This summer, South Africa will become “home” once again as they mentor and disciple this year’s group of Serve South Africa 6-week Interns.
