Problem: Technology has many different impacts on communities. Both positive and negative consequences can occur as a result of implementing technology into the community. Technology is a very important part of our lives and it is important to be informed about technology and the proper way to utilize it. “Just over half of those polled in the new survey said the explosion of digital technologies and connectivity has done more to connect than to isolate Americans and will continue to improve their overall quality of life” (Brownstein, 2015). The positive effects of technology can bring a community together, like Brownstein has stated, and make it more efficient, while the negative effects of technology can impact the people, their health, and future generations. It is important to be aware of not only the impacts of technology but also how to use it for the greater good.

Technology has been able to connect people around the world and to help develop relationships while bringing people together through similar interests. “Creating meaningful relationships is often about sharing our lives with others, and technology can allow us to do so through photos, videos, text, and music” (Human Kinetics, n.d.). While technology can be used to develop relationships, it can also have negative impacts on society, such as excessive use of social networking sites. “There is a lively debate about whether Internet addictions are real. To me it appears to be a real problem with which people have to grapple. Some assert that these Web sites contributed to cheating on significant others, often leading to divorce…

Narcissism – excessive interest in one’s appearance and oneself – is sometimes manifested on social networking sites” (Human Kinetics, n.d.). It is important that the public understands both sides of the use of technology and how it can impact society positively and negatively.

We can:

  • We can have online interactive websites that teach others about technology, and effectively get the participant engaged. Create an online learning platform with free educational videos and blog articles to educate individuals on the use of technology.
  • We can create use free innovative ideas such as learning sessions along from a website, that will be available for free and effectively teaches others and shares useful content
  • We can have online interactive websites that teach others about technology, and effectively get the participant engaged.
  • Free online interactive classes will be implemented along with resourceful blogs that teach and enrich the user with a better understanding of technology

Proposal: It is important to learn and understand the implications of technology. It is very advantageous to be educated and informed about technology. Technology will continue to innovate and become an increasing element of our future. Therefore, it is important to inform the public of the implications of technology as well as how to properly utilize technology through various forms of communication. We plan to build a resourceful website that allows the user to learn and get a grasp of technology in a fun way. Blogs will also be used to teach others on technology, and get them involved on topics of importance. We plan to use our resources in an effective way to get users involved in order to teach them very useful information and help them better understand technology.

Similar to The Khan Academy, an online-based learning platform, we intend to create “virtual classrooms” and videos to educate individuals on technology. “[The Khan Academy] is a wonderful resource for people looking to acquire basic skills, and makes good on its promise to help you learn what you want, when you want” (Parslow, 2012). Online learning has shown to successfully teach individual basic skills, like using a cell phone or creating a secure Facebook profile. This is why we have chosen to implement an already successful model into teaching individuals how to properly use technology.

By conducting free online classes for individuals seeking to learn how to use technology, we can reduce the negative consequences of using technology. Our free online classes will inform technology users about various methods that to protect themselves online as well as good habits to have when using the Internet. This is similar to the popular online learning platform, Khan Academy. This platform teaches individuals various academic subjects, like Math, Science, and more, with in-depth videos on how to approach and solve problems. Our online learning platform will be similar to Khan Academy but is focused on how to use various technologies correctly.
