NEWS FROM ACHS ATHLETICS

GOLF

The ACHS golf team finished fourth in the district and sixth in the region this year. We had great leadership and results from our seniors and a promising future is in store for our two freshmen Brice Reichard and Anthony Souza. Some of the highlights of the year include a win at Bedford Country Club against Liberty, Brookville, and Heritage, a two under par round for our number one seed Logan Beach, and reducing our 18 hole total score by twenty shots from the beginning of the season to the end. A big thanks to Winton Farm for hosting the tournaments and practice this year, and also the support of the Lancer community. Finally, I would like to thank my three seniors, Logan Beach, Carson Peters, and Cameron Cash, on a great senior year and wish them luck for their future. ~Coach Martin

VOLLEYBALL

The Amherst Lancers Volleyball Team battled throughout the season. They won several sets and matches against some great teams. Highlights included defeating Nelson, Appomattox, Brookville and LCA. The volleyball team finished the season with a record of 9-11 and seeded fourth in the Region. The team rose to the occasion several times throughout the season and had some amazing play. Thanks for all the support this year!! Way to go Lancers! ~Coach Fielder

FOOTBALL
CHEERLEADING

This cheer season has been amazing! We had a great group of girls who worked well together. We bonded through fundraisers, dinners, and various activities throughout the season. Coach T, Coach Nikki, and I look forward to what the future holds for ACHS Cheer. Go Lancers! ~Coach Glaize

CROSS COUNTRY

The 2019-2020 Amherst County Cross Country season was nothing less than memorable. We had athletes consistently setting personal records, some amazing accomplishments by our freshmen, and a solid season by our graduating seniors. We battled record-setting temperatures that upset our early season practice but our ladies were able to finish 6th in the Seminole District while our gentlemen finished 5th. We are looking for great things as Amherst’s DRs move on to bigger things and indoor track. ~Coach Lockhart

AMHERST THEATRE

Amherst Theatre (the ACHS theatre troupe) had competition Saturday, October 26 at Jefferson Forest High School for VHSL and another performance at ACHS on October 29. Our theatre students placed second and will be moving on to REGIONALS! Amherst Theatre performed in Norfolk, Virginia for a statewide competition at the annual VTA (Virginia Theatre Association) and out of approximately 45 schools they received 3rd place (they called it 2nd runner up - but its 3rd place). The students had a great time and represented AMHERST well! It's an incredible honor and it put us on the map! Thank you for all your support along the way. These talented and well-behaved students exhibited great sportsmanship...these students cheered for everyone and appreciated all the shows they watched! The show they performed was David Campton’s “Us and Them”. It’s a complex production that tackles the antagonist nature that humankind struggles with daily! Congratulations to Mrs. Emmert and her students for such an awesome job!

Dr. Brown's Final Thoughts

Final Thoughts: Building a culture of positivity. Negativity can physically and emotionally drain adults and students. I want to encourage everyone reading this to approach every situation with a positive outlook, even if you have an issue or concern. I promise you we are all here to help our students and we want to make things better. We will do amazing things for our kids if we work together and stay positive.

Before students came back to school this year, my entire staff and I sat down and had a serious conversation about the values that we wanted to commit to exhibiting consistently for our parents, students, and each other. I am sharing the values that we all agreed upon, along with our mission, vision, and goals so that you can hold us accountable. We want to be about action here at ACHS, not lip-service! We are determined to be INTENTIONALLY EXCELLENT!

  • Vision: To be a model community school that produces engaged and thriving citizens.
  • Mission: Focus on more than academics, by creating engaged citizens, promoting community pride, and developing essential workforce skills.
