枯山水|My World iris hong

This is a VR project created for immersive environmental class. I want to show what is the world looks like inside me by using an models of normal house and an Japanese ancient garden. The normal house represent my real house, and the garden represent my dream. I always want to get away from my house, so I combine this two buildings together and having some elements from my dream garden flying into my house to lead the viewer go into the garden. I placed the representative elements of my childhood, the praying objects for my grandparents, and my memory in Japan all in this space. Please enjoying walking in the house and climbing up to the top of the garden.

I do not want to have a lot of objects in my normal house, because when I think about my house, it is always warm but empty and silent. So I arrange goldfish to swim into the house, just like my dream is connecting with real life. Goldfish represented my memory in my childhood, when there is a period that I lived near a small river in my hometown with fishes inside. Also, goldfish in China represents luck. They swim in my house and bring me out from the reality.

In this scene, there are art pieces I chose from Picasso and Satoshi Kon. The piece from Picasso is named "Guernica", which described a scene that people are escaping from the disaster that the war brought to them. I chose this piece because it shows the main idea of my project: Escaping. There is a computer typing sound behind this area.

The piece from Satoshi Kon is a shot from one of his film work called "Papurika". The film is about a group of scientists created a machine that can transfer between reality and dream. There is a radio sound track plays around the television area.

This scene is from my garden. The rocking chair represented my grandparents. I think they supported me a lot in my life. The black shades represent my memory of family: Vague and thin. One of the reasons of my depression also comes from my childhood. So I put Jackson Pollock's work as my floor picture because I want it to represent my complex memories and emotions in my childhood memory. There is a music clip in the room with piano and children sound.

This scene is shot at the top of my garden. I downloaded a goldfish model, and recreated the texture of it and arranged a group of them swimming from the stair into the room. I put some sakura flowers and Chinese tradition hand writing textures to the goldfish. I do not want the viewer to be limited inside a space, so I created this top environment of my garden. There is a bell ring sound. In the whole secret garden, there is also a music clip that I created by my self plays around.

I used both models from google warehouse and models that created by myself. The house with furniture inside, the ancient Japanese house structure, the goldfish, the piano, the cherry blossom tree and some other small models are found in google warehouse and I assigned different surface texture to these models. The lanterns, rocks, the rock garden and the stairs are created on my own. The images I had are all from google search. The five artists that I included are Jackson Pollock, Yayoi Kusama, Satoshi Kon, Pablo Picasso and Katsushika Hokusai. I used sound tracks I found online or from the class, such as typing voice, bell ringing voice, piano voice, and television voice. I also used a music clip created by my self.
