WCPS week 4 W/E 29/09/19

Hello everyone,

I can not believe we are ending week 4! I have now been head of school for 4 amazing weeks and I am so so proud of how hard all your children are working.

While I’ve been in classrooms I have been amazed at the attitudes the children are showing. As staff we can see the children are starting to build on their learning and making real links.

It was great to see so many of you attending our foundation stage workshop this week and don’t forget to start adding observations and comments to earn raffle tickets to win that shopping voucher!

Thank you to those of you who have left us ideas and gratitude in the jars in reception this week. I have taken the ideas to SLT to discuss in our next meeting so keep your eyes open to see what we do!

Looking forward to another great week next week!

Mrs Paddock

Smartie Pants were chosen for a variety of reasons relating to our vision.

CIRP have been exploring sounds

We are writing a new story for 'Going on a Bear Hunt'. We needed to practice making sounds for our new places so we started with everyday sounds. Can you guess what sounds the children are trying to make?

Attendance

This week we have started to see attendance drop further away from our target. We understand that children get ill however positive attitudes towards attendance are so important, particularly as the winter months draw in and the weather becomes more miserable. Children with coughs and colds can attend school, medicine can be administered by reception if a medical form is submitted. This weeks attendance has dropped 0.7% from last week, 96.3% down to 95.6%.

Punctuality is so important. Research shows that children with consistent school attendance learn more. If children are to fully benefit from the many learning opportunities, regular school attendance is vital. You may think that your child is only missing a few minutes in the morning but a pupil who is 10 minutes late every day, will miss 30 hours of teaching during the year. That’s a large number of teaching hours that cannot be replaced. This week we have had 19 pupils arrive late with a total number of minutes of learning lost equalling 154, that’s 2.5 hours in total!

Every week we introduce staff and children to a new sign. This is to support communication throughout school. This week’s sign in THANKYOU.

Use the images and video to help you learn the sign. We would love to see photos and videos of you using the signs on Twitter and the blog!

Some Year 5 pupils took part in the launch event for Barnsley Enterprise Project. We can’t wait to have all the Year 5 pupils take part.

This week Year 3 visited Bagshaw museum to find out more about Ancient Egypt.
