Driver(s) Of The Month - Sam McKee/Adam Mealand and Stewart Place

Sam McKee and Adam Mealand

Congratulations to the driver pairing of Sam and Adam for winning May’s driver(s) of the month. They started off their maiden Club Enduro campaign with a fine 3rd place in class with Sam qualifying in 1st for their first two hour outing of the season. Having raced at the last Enduro of the season at Snetterton last year, this year will see a full campaign for the pair with the improvements made to the car over the winter proving there worth with quick pace straight away. The race wasn’t without drama, with Adam taking the start he pushed on with quick laps holding 2nd in class. The safety came out a bit to early for them to make their stop so Adam carried on until 55 minutes in Sam took over. During the final stint Sam started to experience fuel starvation which affected the car in certain corners. It still didn’t stop Sam from passing Ivor Mairs for the final step of the podium. The pair go again at Croft in a couple of weeks time.

Stewart Place

Congratulations to Stewart for winning this month as well. Stewart has had a cracking start to the season with strong pace at Brands Hatch finishing 4th and 5th in both races. The Classic Stock Hatch headed to Mallory where Stewart drove superbly to qualify in 2nd place just 0.03 seconds behind reigning champion Lee Scott. The first didn’t quite go to plan falling to the back of the grid on the first lap, however he clawed his way up the field lap after lap to finish 9th and set fastest lap. Race two was completely different, Stewart had a fantastic battle with the top four trading places, Matt Rozier and Lee Scott led for parts of the race with Stewart battling with Edward Cooper. The battle was close and on lap 12 Stewart made his move to second and battled with Lee Scott finishing only 0.67 seconds behind and again setting the fastest lap. Stewart races again at Cadwell in July

Meet The Driver - Jay Daniels Clio 182 Championship

This month we catch with Jay Daniels in his second season racing in the Clio 182 Championship. We put 10 questions to Jay here is what he had to say..

How did you get into racing? It all started when I was 8, we have a karting track, Ellough Park just 5miles up the road I asked mum if I could go and have drive, she phoned and booked me on but then they asked how tall I was, I wasn't tall enough!! I was gutted so mum took my horse riding instead!! Then when I was 12 I asked about it again but first I got measured and I was tall enough and I was hooked, the racing bug took hold!!

What made you choose the Clio 182 championship? I had looked at various championships but chose the Clio 182 as it is has large grids, the cars are the same and its good close competitive racing.

If you could pick a team mate who would it be and why? It would be great to partner Max Coates, he is an amazing driver and gives it 100% and leaves everything on the track and he is such a gent off the track too.

Jay is also raising money this year for the Great Ormond Street Hospital this year..

Rob qualified a fantastic 7th on his debut with Paul in 22nd place in the ultra competitive championship. In race one Rob finished 10th, sadly Paul retired after the 1st lap. Race 2 was action packed Rob running up the front when a collision with Tom Gadd damaged the car, Rob brought it home in 17th. Paul had a better race finishing in 19th.

Ian's car is currently receiving some TLC with Mark Freeman, undergoing some repair work ready for Castle Combe next weekend.
