Elite Sport Programme 2019/2020

The Elite Sport Programme at Abertay supports elite level student athletes, coaches and match officials combine their studies alongside their sporting commitments. Taking part in elite sport takes dedication, a will to win and resilience - the programme aims to help the athletes make the most of their time at Abertay alongside continuing to develop in their sport. Details of the programme can be found here. Athletes in the programme benefit from free gym memberships, free training kit, a bursary & tailored support specific to the needs of the student.

Gemma Lumsdaine

Callum Garden

  • Sport: Cricket
  • Club: Forfarshire Cricket Club
  • Course: Civil and Environmental Engineering
  • Year: 1st

Achievements

  • Capped for Scotland at:under 15's, 17's, and 19's, Development team, Performance Academy and A team.
  • For my club side, we have just finished a really successful season winning the league for the first time ever and going on to win the treble.
  • At the under 15's European championship I won the top run scored in the competition and in the under 19 World Cup Qualifiers I got the most dismissals.

Aims

To become Scotland's best player and help them get test match status. I also hope to become a county cricketer.

Cameron Golden

James Isaacs

To represent Team Canada at the 2020 Inline Hockey Worlds Championships in Columbia

Katie Stott

  • Sport: Hockey
  • Club: Grove Menzieshill
  • Course: Biomedical Science
  • Year: 3rd

Achievements

  • Scotland Caps at U16, U18, U21 and Senior indoor caps.
  • Winning the gold medal at the Junior Europeans in Turkey this summer.
  • Playing for the senior indoor team in Belgium last year.
  • Selection for GB trials based on performance in the Europeans

To play for Scotland at the 2022 Commonwealth Games

Esme McGregor

Emily Bremner

  • Sport: Artistic Gymnastics

  • Course: Marketing and Business
  • Year: 1st

  • Member of the Scottish Performance Programme/national squads
  • 2nd overall at the Scottish Championships 2019
  • 13th overall at the British Championships 2019
  • 1st overall at the Malar Cup 2018 in Sweden
  • 2nd overall at the Sandra Clarke Cup 2018
  • 2nd overall (senior) at Adrian Stan/British Teams and Team Dundee came 3rd (both in non-GB squad division)

Michaela Patzeltova

  • Sport: Golf

  • Best Golfer of the year under 18
  • 2016: 4th place - Faldo Series (in Poland)
  • 8th place - Bucs Individual Tour
  • 2017: Top 10 Slovak National Junior Championship U21
  • 7th place - Slovak Clubs Championship
  • 6th place - BUCS Individual Tour
  • 2019: 9th place - Scottish Student Sport Championship
  • Member of Slovak National team for 4 years.

Bethany Craigie

  • Sport: Trampolining
  • Club: Tiggers Trampoline Club
  • Course: Sport & Exercise Sciences
  • Year: 2nd

Achievements

  • Currently in the Women’s 19+ NDP Performance Level in Trampolining
  • Qualified for Scottish National Championships 2019
  • Selected to represent Scotland at the Trampoline and Tumbling Regional Team Finals in 2016 and 2017.

Aims

  • To move my piked Rudi out out of the pit and land it on the trampoline, regain my Half-in Half-outs and regain my piked double backs. This will allow me to build up my higher tariff routines for next year.
  • My goals for this season is to move up to Fig category (elite), successfully complete my routines with tariff of 10.8 at a competition, and qualify for Scottish National Championships again.

Aidan McQuade

As the current national 200m champion I will look to continue to develop and to perform successfully in regional/ national competition and lower my personal best times in both 100m & 200m
