Civil Marriage Ceremony Guide


We offer 2 customized wedding packages by appointment Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

EXPRESS WEDDINGS: $160.00 - Maximum eight guests, appointments suggested, walk-ins welcome Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., if available.

Please note: The Express Wedding does not include Chambers decorations or music, which are only available with one of the two packages. An additional fee will be charged for time if the number of guests exceeds eight.


  1. Marriage License - Marriage licenses must be obtained from any County Clerk-Recorder prior to your ceremony. They require that you are both present with a photo ID. The fee is $95 and the license is valid for 90 days. After the ceremony your license will be forwarded to the County Clerk where it was obtained. The County Clerk will process it and return it to you in approximately 2 weeks. If you do not receive your certified license, please follow up with the County Clerk.

  3. Signed and dated wedding contract

Itemized Fees

  • $50.00 nonrefundable processing fee
  • $152.00 one hour Council Chambers rental
  • $32.00 insurance (only needed if Indemnity & Hold Harmless Agreement not signed)


Payment in full is due to reserve your requested date. Cash, checks, and money orders made payable to the City of Alameda, as well as credit cards, are accepted. No refunds or credits will be given for any reason including but not limited to cancellations, failure to show up or any unforeseen circumstances.

The week prior

If you would like your own music, you may select from our list, or customize your own playlist by providing the music on a flash drive at least one week before the wedding. Please also note the order the songs should be played.

You may also drop off the marriage license for safekeeping.

What to bring the day of the wedding

  • Marriage license
  • Photo ID's
  • Rings if you are doing an exchange
  • Witnesses to sign marriage license (up to two and one can be provided)

Please check in at the Clerks Office, Room 380, 15 minutes prior to ceremony

Please note: Ceremonies are only performed Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
