Winter Cone Concert 2019 Fremont high school Bands

Welcome to the Winter Band Concert featuring the Fremont High School Jazz Band, the Percussion Ensemble, the Walquist Band, the Rocky Mountain Jr High Band, the Fremont Symphonic Band and the Fremont Wind Ensemble.

Jazz Band: Prelude

Our Jazz Band is setup as a traditional Jazz "Big Band". Standard instrumentation includes Saxophones, Trombones, Trumpets and a Rhythm Section. Music performed includes jazz standards made known in the early development of this American art-form. A unique aspect of jazz is the art of improvising. Students who perform solos will be improvising. In other words, they make it up on the spot. You are witnessing the creation of NEW MUSIC in real-time. What a privilege it is to share in this experience with our amazing students.

Deck the Halls with All Sorts of Funky arr. Erik Sherburne

What do James Brown in a Santa suit, this chart, and an ugly sweater party all have in common? They make Christmas funky! Deck the Halls with All Sorts of Funky is nothing but holiday fun. This one is special! Featuring soloists Justin Jacobson (trombone), Milton Davis (Trumpet) and Jase Brostrom (Bass)

Three Guys (We Three Kings) arr. Bob Turner

Three Guys is a jazz/rock/funk take on We Three Kings and is taken directly from the highly successful combo chart with the same title. A great chart for any holiday or winter concert! Featuring soloists Rockwell Hansen (Guitar) and Milton Davis (Trumpet).

O Holy Night Adolphe Adam/arr. Haley Woodrow

Haley Woodrow's fresh take on the classic O Holy Night is sure to be a favorite! Set in 6/8 time with an intriguing ostinato that grows into a full ensemble statement of the chorus. It features Jayden Rowley (flugelhorn, trumpet) throughout. This is a creative, fresh, and wonderful chart.

Big Noise from the North Pole arr. Mike Collins-Dowden

Jingle Bells meets Big Noise from Winnetka, complete with minor key and the drummer laying down a Krupa groove! It swings hard from top to bottom and is very clever. Featuring Alex Whipple on Drums.

Percussion Ensemble

Oh the things we hit....Percussion Ensemble is a multi-purpose class. Students work on percussion techniques while preparing music to perform as a percussion ensemble as well and playing with the Symphonic band and Wind Ensemble. The variety of repertoire for percussion is vast, new and exciting.

Christmas Eve Sarejevo 12:24

"Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24" is an instrumental medley of "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen" and "Shchedryk", first released on the Savatage album Dead Winter Dead in 1995 as "Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24)." It was re-released by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, a side project of several Savatage members, on their 1996 debut album Christmas Eve and Other Stories. The piece describes a lone cello player (based on Vedran Smailović) playing a forgotten Christmas carol in war-torn Sarajevo. This is our rendition, hoping always that our performances will lift the spirits of those who are present with us. Features Becca Foster (Flute), and Jace Trejo (Cello).

Rocky Mountain Jr. High Band

Rocky Mountain Junior High currently serves students in the 7th, 8th and 9th grades from the communities of Hooper, West Haven, Kanesville and Taylor. Rocky Mountain students feed into Fremont High School. The band is under the direction of Michael Edlefsen.

The school was built in 1941 and served 300 students at that time. ... Walquist feeds into Fremont High School. The band is directed by Michael Wooden.

Christmas Spiritual arr. David A. Myers

Beginning with a sparkling slow introduction reminiscent of a clear, cold day in December, this always-surprising arrangement of Go Tell It on the Mountain soon launches into a celebratory fast-tempo section that will rock the house! Several contrasts of mood and tempo follow. This is a fun and exciting piece!

Up on the Housetop arr. Paul Clark

Up On The Housetop gets an extreme-band-makeover with this rockin' good time arrangement for young bands. Lots of creative writing creates a fun addition to our holiday program.

Fremont Symphonic Band

The Symphonic Band is comprised of talented young woodwind, brass, and percussion students at Fremont. Under the direction of Mr. Jacob Bradshaw, the Symphonic Wind Ensemble embraces a diverse array of wind band literature, ranging from the core repertoire to the newest works from contemporary composers. The Symphonic Band is primarily made of sophomores and has only been a performance ensemble at Fremont High for the last 2 years.

Adventum arr. Jared Barnes

A peaceful setting of O Come, O Come Emmanuel contrasts nicely with the colorful and energetic rendition of the Ukrainian Bell Carol that follows. The arrangement then draws to an exciting conclusion against a background of ringing bells.

A Mad Russian's Christmas (As Performed by Trans-Siberian Orchestra) arr. Bob Phillips & George Megaw

As performed in the fabulous Trans-Siberian Orchestra live concert, experience Tchaikovsky's Trepak from "The Nutcracker" as you never have before. Just as energetic with wind and percussion instruments alone, several included optional parts enhance the authenticity. If you haven't seen TSO, check it out online.

Greensleeves arr. Alfred Reed
Combined Bands

This is every band student who has performed this evening. 140 strong! All current and future Fremont Band members.
