Rough Ridge Hike Emma Wagoner

Rough Ridge is a short hike right off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Many App State students consider this hike to be a "right of passage" to becoming a legitimate student. My friends and I finally decided to make the hike this semester. The hike itself is not strenuous and only takes about twenty minutes. A little ways up the hike, there is a rock that students traditionally take pictures on. If the picture is taken just right, it looks like you are hanging off of a cliff on the side of a mountain. The photos are really breathtaking and taking them is even more so. On windy days, it can be extremely hard to find your balance, which is quite scary. I took my puppy with me, so we had to stop for everyone we passed on the hike to pet her. She did surprisingly well for a 12 week old puppy and let me get some good pictures of her. There were a lot of people trying to get pictures on the cliff, so it was very crowded, but we got our pictures and finished the hike. We finished the adventure with eating Comeback Shack on the Thunder Hill Overlook.
