Matter

Any thing that has a mass or takes up space.

Types of matter are Pure substance and Mixtures

Pure substance.... A Pure substance is a substance that are made up of only one type of atom or only one type of molecule. EX: Tin, Sulfur, diamond, Water sucrose, Table salt.

PURE SUBSTANCE.

Element....substances that cannot be chemically inter converted or broken down into simpler substances and are primary constituents of matter. EX: Oxygen, Hydrogen, Sodium, Chlorine, Lead, Iron

Compound....composed of two or more separate elements

Mixture

a substance made by mixing other substances together.

Homogeneous....A mixture which has uniform composition and properties throughout.

Heterogeneous....mixture made of different substances that remain physically separate.

Solution....is a homogenous. substance that dissolves into a solvent

suspension....a heterogeneous mixture in which solute-like particles settle out of a solvent-like phase

Collioid....a mixture in which one substance of microscopically dispersed insoluble particles is suspended throughout another substance.
