8AM: Head to Ballygunge station to catch the 8.37 train to Ghutiarisharif. Every morning we would spend the hour long journey chatting, reading and talking to the curious locals.

9AM: Arrive at Ghutiarsharif! We meet our teachers, Mina and Krishna, before heading into the class.

S C H O O L

Walking into the classroom on our first day, it's safe to say we were slightly nervous. But the nerves are swiftly overcome and the relationships you create with the students are indescribable. For the ten weeks there, you are their mentor, their leader, their friend.

I R I S H D A Y

The annual Irish day! An annual highlight of every volunteer programme. There is no more enjoyable experience than listening to a group of forty Indian five year-olds singing 'Oró Sé Do Bheatha 'Bhaile' while decked out in green, white and orange.

F I N A L D A Y

Our final day came with a real mixture of laughter and tears. It was so heartwarming to realise the connection you had made with the students, but heartbreaking to leave them at the end of the day.

You live, eat, drink, breathe, EVERYTHING with your team. They become your family during your volunteer experience, and the friendships and memories you make together will last forever.

T R A V E L L I N G

As part of the Suas programme, you will get the option of travelling for ten days or three weeks (or not at all). If you have the time and means, I definitely recommend doing the three weeks. The places you see and the people you meet will blow you away. India is such a diverse country, three weeks won't feel like long enough!
