The iconic 1980's movie musical you've been waiting for is finally here!
Beginning May 19, Barter Theatre’s Gilliam Stage will host the iconic, 1980s movie musical, Footloose based on the original screenplay by Dean Pitchford. The musical will be showing until August 12 at various dates and times, including weekday matinees and evening prime times.
The storyline follows a teenager, Ren McCormack, who is forced to move to a small town called Bomont where all dancing and rock music have been banned as deemed by the town’s reverend, Shaw Moore.
Through a series of events which affect his relationships with others in the town, Ren seeks to have the anti-dancing regulation repealed.
It isn’t until Rev. Moore sees the townspeople aggressively pursuing the removal of all negative influences to their youth—including books—that he realizes his mistake in calling for the no-dance ordinance, and dismisses the ban allowing the town to enjoy the freedom of dancing again.
Barter Theatre has been portraying iconic shows like this for nearly 84 years since it’s opening in June of 1933. It has evolved to nationwide recognition and hosted many now-famous actors and actresses.
The show will begin May 19 and conclude August 12. So, purchase YOUR tickets quickly to reserve available seating at Barter Theatre’s Gilliam Stage before tickets are sold out!
