Year 3 - Rashford Autumn 2 - 2021

Autumn 2

STONES AND BONES

The Stone Age Boy

In English we are focusing on the text The Stone Age Boy. This is a wonderful text, beautifully illustrated, about a young boy who one day while walking along stumbles and falls into the Stone Age. There he meets a young girl of his age and he learns about her Stone Age way of life. We will complete lots of literacy work from this text, including informal letter writing, story retells and a non-chronological report on the Stone Age.

All children will take part in daily spelling, phonics and reading sessions as this is essential for their literacy progression. Please ensure that you listen to your child read at home and log home reading accordingly onto Go Read.

Maths

In maths this half-term we will be focusing on our calculation strategies and using these to solve more complex maths problems. The children will complete Power Maths lessons and a weekly maths reasoning lesson.

In addition to Power Maths the children will continue to access Times Tables Rock Stars and NumBots in order to learn from recall their number facts.

Science

Our topic this half-term is Animals, including Humans. We will identify that some animals have skeletons for support and movement and we will look at what nutrition we need to keep us healthy. Science will be taught through a number of key skills; pattern seeking, testing, identifying and classifying, observation and research.

Computing

In computing the children will continue to look at on online safety and will be introduced to the world of coding.

History

Our topic in history is is the Stone Age. We will look at where the Stone Age sits chronologically and use our investigation skills to look at Stone Age settlements to derive how the inhabitants lived. We will also look at examples of amazing cave art.

R.E.

In R.E. we will be learning about different festivals of light, looking at the similarities and differences between religions. It is important that our children have an understanding of other faiths and religions in order to promote our school values of perseverance, community and respect.

Music

In Autumn 1 Rashford class have really enjoyed their recorder lessons. This is a great opportunity for the children and I know they are keen to continue and progress with their recorders this half-term.

DT

In DT the children will design, make and evaluate a light for Christmas display.

P.E.

This half-term Rashford will take part in a weekly forest school session. This is a great opportunity for the children to explore and learn new outdoor skills. The forest school session will take place on Thursday afternoon. Our Tuesday P.E. session will focus on team games, looking at improving our footballing skills. In addition to P.E. the children will take part in the daily mile.

PHSE

Building on from Autumn 1 where we looked at the importance of family and what makes a family, we will now move onto looking at personal boundaries and the possible impact of hurtful behaviour.
