The biggest trends of 2020 included combat books, biker shorts, turtle necks under sweatshirts, polo sweaters, and really anything that was unique and out of the ordinary. During quarantine many people revamped their closets adding new items, or dusting off the old ones. Outfits inspired by 90s nostalgia and cabin wear turned old school to trendy fashion. In 2021, will new trends keep popping up or will 2020 fashion trends stay through the new year?

This past summer, chains, beanies and sunglasses were worn by only a few people; however, the upcoming summer will be the summer of accessories. Small framed sunglasses are a way to uplift one’s outfit from lazy to boujie. The great thing about them is that they can be worn in any color or pattern. In addition to colorful accessories, add in bucket hats to the new trend. bucket hats come in tie dye, corduroy and floral patterns, which makes choosing one to wear the difficult part.

Something less difficult to quickly put on is jewelry. Seeing a glimpse of layered necklaces in the end of 2020 pushed this style into 2021 adding chunky earrings, big hoops and a prediction of chain earrings in the summer.

On a layering note, layering clothing is a new trend that is sure to be seen in 2021 through the cold seasons and even spring. Throwing on a zip up over a sweatshirt creates a more put together outfit then just a hoodie. Plus- adds warmth.

Just like accessories, hair styles are the key to adding something to one’s outfit in order to turn basic into something new. For people with shorter hair, the style has been going a bit back in time, but not the bad way. Wavy hair, fluffy and long is a new trend. For people with long hair, braids have been a good way to keep strands out of one’s face. Middle parts are in and hopefully to stay. Many people went from side part to middle part during the beginning of the quarantine and this has become the norm.

Small braids, wrapping hair and thin colored highlights will be a new trend in spring/summer. There are also so many new hairstyles such as double ponytails paired with half up half down.

Flower patterns are predicted to bloom this summer on clothing items including dresses and sneakers. Floral designs on clothes brightens up the mood of 2021 which attempts to bring back the light 2020 and the pandemic lost. Many small businesses or people who have talented visions are revamping their Nike shoes and painting new designs on them, one of them being floral. Instead of having plain white sneakers, try shoes with a cool design that stands out.

When in a rush, the last step in an outfit are shoes. In the 2000s, Uggs were a huge hit. This decade, short Uggs are making a comeback and are a quick and cute shoe to pair with anything.

When pairing a bright color to light wash jeans, black leggings with a colored sweater, blue joggers with a grey hoodie, these patterns can become repetitive. Yes, these styles are still and will be worn, but monochrome will become a new trend. Whether one is staying at home or going to an event, pairing different shades of one color can be dressed up or down. Monochrome suits and tuxedos are seen all around the famous red carpets, but this year, they are said to take over. Many examples of monochrome outfits were seen at the inauguration with First Lady Jill Biden wearing shades of turquoise.

Ever since skinny jeans were canceled, boyfriend jeans, vintage loose jeans, flare jeans, straight leg jeans and other categories define the loose fit and less tight clothing trend. Mom jean shorts and jogger shorts predicted for summer! The athletic styles can get pretty boring, but sometimes boring is good. The trend of biker shorts and athletic sets are still in and said to run through 2021.

Although the usual short shorts and athletic shorts are still in, shorts that are not like others, create the bougie, trendy and authentic style today’s generation is looking for. To pair with these shorts, a prediction of halter tops, mesh tops, any sweater vests and corsets are coming out with the warm weather. Corsets can be paired with a shirt or worn on their own creating a feminine or masculine look. Halter tops were a big trend during the 1960s and 1970s. As people look at trends resurfacing, halter tops are close to the years that have already come back.

Another throwback trend is letterman jackets. Like many other fads, this more masculine look takes people back in time while incorporating today's fresh twists.

Lastly predicted are beaded and modernized masks. The same reusable masks are repetitive, boring and people desire ones they can wash and wear going out to eat, working and posing for an Instagram post. To make masks normal, people have to make them look and become part of their daily outfits.
