OptiFer® Kiddo contains important minerals and vitamins for growing kids

1. Iron

Part of a molecule found in red blood cells that carries oxygen in the body, needed for energy metabolism.

Sources: Organ meats, red meats, fish, poultry

Low iron causes tiredness, lack of energy and learning difficulties.

2. Selenium

Selenium is an essential mineral needed for the heart, joints, eyes and immune system.

All selenium comes from food such as meats, seafood and grains.

Low selenium can cause general fatigue, mental fatigue, cardiovascular disease.

3. Potassium

Potassium is a mineral and electrolyte crucial for the heart, kidneys and other organs to work normally. Important for blood pressure and also helps the nerves and muscles to work right.

Typical sources are beans, dark leafy greens, potatoes, squash, fish, avocados, bananas.

Low potassium can affect muscle strength, nerve functioning and a healthy cardiovascular system.

4. Iodine

Found in thyroid hormone, which helps regulate growth, development and metabolism.

Sources are seafood, foods grown in iodine-rich soil, iodized salt, bread, dairy products.

Iodine deficiency is one of the leading causes of preventable mental handicaps. It may also give rise to hypothyroidism. Symptoms of which are extreme fatigue, mental slowing and weight gain.

5. Thiamine, Vitamin B1

Part of an enzyme needed for energy metabolism and important for nerve function.

Found in all nutritious food in moderate amounts: Pork, whole-grain or enriched bread and cereals, legumes, nuts and seeds.

Thiamine deficiency or Berberi refers to the lack of vitamin B1. The body cannot produce thiamin and can store only up to 30 mg in muscles.

Riboflavin, Vitamin B2

Riboflavin is part of an enzyme needed for normal vision and skin health.

Sources are mainly milk and milk products, leafy green vegetables, whole-grain eriched breads and cereals.

Symptoms and signs of Riboflavin deficiency are sore throat, lesions of the lips and mucosa of the mouth, glossitis, conjunctivitis, anemia and dermatitis.

7. Niacin, Vitamin B3

Part of an enzyme needed for energy metabolism. Important for normal vision and skin health.

Sources: Milk and milk products, leafy green vegetables, whole-grain enriched breads and cereals.

Pellagra is a vitamin deficiency caused by a chronic lack of Niacin.

Symptoms of mild deficiency are indigestion, fatigue, vomiting and depression.

8. Pantothenic acid, Vitamin B5

Pantothenic acid participates in many biological processes and is essential to all life.

Sorces: The major food source is meat. Also in Broccoli and Avocado.

Symptoms of mild deficiency are similar to other Vitamin B deficiencies, mainly impaired energy

9. Biotin, Vitamin H

Part of an enzyme needed for energy metabolism,

Widespread in food; also produced by intestinal bacteria.

Biotin deficiency is a rare nutritional disorder, which can become serious, even fatal, if allowed to progress untreated.

Signs and symptoms are rashes, brittle hair, hair loss, anemia, dermatitis and fungal infections.

10. Pyridoxin, Vitamin B6

Pyridoxin is part of an enzyme needed for protein metabolism; helps make red blood cells.

Found in meat, fish, poultry, vegetables, fruits.

Deficency symptoms are dermatitis, glossitis and neurological symptoms.

11. Folic Acid, Vitamin B9

Folic acid is part of an enzyme needed for making DNA and new cells, especially red blood cells.

Sources are green leafy vegetables and legumes, seeds, orange juice and liver. Now added to most refined grains.

Folic acid deficiency can cause anemia and deprive the tissues of oxygen affecting their function.

12. Cobalamin, Vitamin B12

Part of an enzyme needed for making new cells, important for nerve function.

Cobalamin is found in meat, poultry, fish, seafood, eggs, milk and milk products. Not found in plant foods.

Deficiency can lead to Vitamin B12 deficiency with pernicious anemia.

13. Ascorbic acid, Vitamin C

Antioxidant, part of an enzyme needed for protein metabolism; important for immune system health; aids in iron absorption.

Found only in fruits and vegetables, especially citrus fruits, vegetable in the cabbage family, cantaloupe, strawberries, pepper, tomatoes, potatoes, lettuce, papayas, mangoes, kiwifruit.

14. PABA

Para-aminobezoic acid is part of the folic acid molecule and is naturally occurring substance that is often used in sunscreen products.

Found in grains, eggs, milk, spinach, meat

PABA is necessary for healthy skin and hair pigment and helps maintain intestinal flora.
