Wild Ski Weekend Cairngorms, 16-18 March 2018

It's 3 months until our Wild Ski weekend, the first ever Black Crows gathering in the UK. Based in the Cairngorms, an easy hit from any major UK city, join us and you can spend the weekend being Guided by Glenmore Lodge Guides & Instructors and skiing with like minded people of similar ability.

If you're keen to attend but aren't sure what level to book on, or wonder if you have the right amount of existing experience, then we've put together this handy guide to help you.

We've got 4 packages you can choose from:

Why choose this weekend over our normal Ski weekend courses?

This is not a course, it is a guided experience, offering 2 days of guided skiing with our Ski Guides, Instructors and Black Crows athletes. This is about the ski experience - with instruction a part of the day out! Oh and we've got a band in the evening and the Ski industry's best brands to chat to. Chat to Black Crows athletes and learn from some talented skiers.

So, what will you do and how fit do you need to be?

Discover the Wildside

Introductory level. For skiers fresh out of the nest or still learning to master the difficult, unpredictable, challenging, but ultimately emotionally enriching offpiste backcountry skiing. When you book this package you’ll be heading off for a unique journey exploring the mellow, friendly wide slopes of the Cairngorms. Use this as your perfect classroom to ask all your burning questions and practice & perfect your backcountry turns. For example one objective could be the classic tour of the Northern Corries before cruising down Lurchers Gully, trusting your guide to find the best routes available.

Fitness and Ski Ability: You are confident on blue pistes and enjoy skiing with smooth, rhythmic turns. You need to be fit enough to ski all day, with few stops or breaks.

Wild Ski Adventure

Intermediate level: Ski a little bit further into the wildside. Exploring the hidden treasures of the Cairngorms, cruising the wide open slopes and crushing the burn lines. You could be heading off to explore Ben Macdui and its surrounding hills whilst using our Guide’s local knowledge to find the secret ski lines, allowing us to earn our turns to the maximum. Another alternative may see you wave goodbye to the piste skiers on Cairngorm, before we leave tracks as we head down to Loch Avon and then climb the stunning Beinn Mheadhoin. From the commanding summit we will admire the stunning vista of the Cairngorms before cruising the ski lines back to Loch Avon and finally over Cairngorm triumphantly and ready for the party. Decide as a group what works for you.

Fitness and Ski Ability: You are a confident skier on red runs, playing with terrain, skiing narrow corridors and using the bumps to help start a new turn whilst looking ahead to identify the line you intend to ski.

Tame the Wildside Package

Advanced level: This is perfect for the skier who is used to leaving clean carved turns in the wide open slopes and is keen to look into the hidden and dramatic gullies and ski lines that the Cairngorms is famous for. Choose this option if you’re a solid skier used to skiing the whole mountain and you are looking to take the next step. For example we would tackle Cairngorm classics such as the March Burn, Coire Domhain and Y Gully.

Fitness and Ski Level: You can ski through bumps, although these are still hardwork and you are working to develop the ability to fluidly ski the fall line. When the slope goes over 30 degrees, you have some well practiced coping strategies. You ski the whole mountain and actively seek challenging black runs, to ski in all conditions.

Black Crows Women's Session

All levels: If you'd like to spend the weekend skiing with a community of like-minded female skiers, then this is the package for you. Delivered in association with Black Crows and their specially designed range of female skis: the Birdie range. Black crows don't just shrink it and pink it. This range has been designed from scratch, balancing ski shape, waste, length and weight dimensions to produce an award winning and much acclaimed range. This package is open to all abilities and groups will be paired according to experience.
