Relax in the Sunshine casa tejeda - A Spanish vacation location

Casa Tejeda is a stylish and comfortable holiday villa built in the traditional Andalucian country style with its own private pool, situated in 5 acres of its own farmland of olive and fruit trees in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Located on the outskirts of Mondron, a quiet, traditional 'white' hillside village, this property has stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The perfect place to relax, unwind and explore the beauty of Andalucia.

The climate is reputed to be the best in Europe with over 320 days sunshine each year and less extreme temperatures than inland; in fact this is the only area of Europe where tropical fruit can be successfully grown.

Casa Tejeda sits in an orchard of Peach and Olive trees.
Mondron and Periana are famed for their olive oil and peaches.

Located approximately 7 km west of the small town of Periana, Mondron by road is approximately 18 km from Lake Vinuela, 28 km NW of Torre del Mar (renowned beach resort), 1 1/2 hour drive to Granada, 2 1/2 hour drive to Seville and a 50 minute drive to Málaga airport.

This is a tranquil rural area and is an ideal base for those with an interest in walking, mountaineering, natural history, mountain biking, horse riding, geology, archaeology & non-motorised water sports.

Lake Vinuela

The property is set in five acres of its own private farmland, split between olive grove and fruit trees including peach, pomegranate, orange, lemon and fig, and and grape vines. Guests are welcome to help themselves to whatever fruit is in season when they visit. We thoroughly recommend freshly squeezed orange and pomegranate juice to start the day!

The villa is reached by a private driveway and there is ample parking for several vehicles.

The property is well equipped and stylishly decorated in an Andalucian style throughout, with whitewashed walls, terra cotta floors, Andaluz tiles and ceramics.

Ideally suited for a group of up to 6 persons, the villa is equipped with 3 spacious bedrooms (one en suite double with shower, one en suite twin with bath and separate shower, and one twin).

The beautifully designed large private pool (8m x 5m) is surrounded by a large natural stone paved sun terrace and enclosed within a security fence (for the safety of young children).

Surrounding Area

Immediate vicinity

Nearby is the charming whitewashed town of Periana, well known for its peaches and olive oil. Facilities in and around Periana include three supermarkets, banks, Post Office, chemist, hardware shops, bread/patisserie shops, fishmongers, butchers, cybercafe, riding stables and large public swimming pool. There are also plenty of friendly bars – e.g. Marisqueria, Verdugo (excellent food), Rincon de Marco, Leonico, Baranco and more.

The fiesta of San Isidro (the patron saint of Periana) is on 15th May and the olive oil festival is celebrated towards the end of March. (The olive oil co-op San Isidro is well worth a visit and you can buy samples to take home). Around 15th August the peach festival is celebrated.

Baňos de Vilo: A short distance off the main main road between Mondron and Periana is an old Roman sulphur bath where you can enjoy a refreshing bathe in the cold suphur water (very good for skin problems). A few metres up from the baths is a very nice typical village bar.

Excursions within an hour’s traveling distance include

Alfarnate/Alfarnatejo: Above Baňos de Vilo a newly asphalted road zigzags up over the mountains towards Alfarnate – a pretty little village. Quite close by is the Venta de Alfarnatejo a 17th century inn, once the haunt of highwaymen and bandits, now converted into an excellent bar restaurant. From there you can take a wonderful drive back down through the mountains to the Periana/Rio Gordo road.

The Zaffaraya Pass & Alhama de Granada: a beautiful small market town situated on the edge of a spectacular gorge of considerable industrial archaeological, geological & botanical interest. Visit the museum and information centre for details of trails along the ravine. There are several churches worth visiting and lots of beautiful old houses lining narrow cobbled streets plus many places to eat and tapas bars. Worth visiting are the hot springs Baňos Arabes about 3km out of Alhama on the Granada road.

Puente Don Manuel: Puente Don Manuel has grown up where the Periana road meets the main road from Alhama de Granada to the coast at Torre del Mar. This is a village which is growing incredibly rapidly and has a large number of bars, estate agents, a wonderful patisserie/bread shop and useful English shop.

Alcaucín: A very nice small town about 3km up above Puente Don Manuel, nestling against the Sierra Tejeda. From here you have access to the Natural Park “Sierra Tejeda” – beautiful and great for hiking.

The El Torcal National Park: well known for the spectacular naturally sculptured limestone formations and its flora & fauna. Not far away the lake of Fuenta de Piedra is famous for its breeding flamingo populations and the Dolmens of Antequera are reputed to be the finest in Europe.

The Mediterranean beaches: including Torre del Mar, Nerja and Rincon de Victoria, the last two mentioned being worth a visit for their remarkable cave systems, Nerja being one of the most beautiful in Europe. The coves nestling along the coastline between Nerja and Torre are beautiful, unspoilt & protected

The Sierra Almajara Wildlife Reserve: famous for its vultures, bee eaters & endemic curly horned wild goats.

The historic centre of Malaga: worth a visit are the impressive moorish remains of the Alcazaba Palace and the Gibralfaro Castle from were there are terrific views across the city. Down below near the vast unfinished 16th -18th century cathedral is the Museo Picasso and the house were Picasso was born. The new Centro de Arte Contemporaneo is also close by. This central area is full of tapa bars and restaurants. Malaga is famed for its fried fish dishes.
