150 - LETNICA PLEČNIKOVEGA ROJSTVA Plečnikova Slovenija

JOŽE PLEČNIK V SLOVENIJI

Jože Plečnik in Slovenia
“A building must speak. Into every building we must instil an idea, a veiled sign, just as the ancients did.”

“When designing a building, you should find such an idea within yourself that you tremble before it.”

“If we do not find the door to beauty in life, we will never cross the threshold of beauty in eternity.“ Jože Plečnik
“The Roman is still the basis of everything today: it is in the early Christian and Byzantine architecture and in the Renaissance, which we still carry in our minds and bones today.“ Jože Plečnik

A tireless thinker, Plečnik created mighty yet attractive architecture imbued with monumentality yet concealing within itself the enigma of symbols, both visible and invisible.

»Minljiv si, le tvoja dela so tvoj spomin.«

“You are transient, only your works preserve your memory.”
A genius when it came to handling materials, Plečnik was a craftsman, a graphic and industrial designer, an artisan, draughtsman, statics expert and architect.

Plečnik je bil genialen pri rokovanju z materiali, obrtnik, grafični in industrijski oblikovalec, rokodelec, risar, statik in arhitekt.

Preštudiral je načrt mesta in z matematično natančnostjo preučil simetrijo obstoječih in novih prostorskih točk.

Together with his students, Plečnik immediately started work on regulatory and urban regeneration plans for Ljubljana, in which he often drew on Fabiani’s designs. He studied the city plan with mathematical precision to identify the symmetries of existing and proposed new spatial points.

In 1920 Plečnik returned to Ljubljana, where, with Ivan Vurnik, he founded the Department of Architecture in the Technical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana. On returning to the city, Plečnik wrote, “My bones yearn for the graves of their fathers and — if I may be permitted to confess it — my love for the remaining inches of our soil commands me, saying, ‘Rise! Rise! Go home to share your old age and your peace.’ ”

Plečnik was made an honorary citizen of Ljubljana in 1939 and a member of the Slovenian Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1938. After the war, he was awarded the Order of Merit for the People and became the first winner of the Prešeren Award for architecture. On 28 October 2017, Independence Day, the president of the Czech Republic, Miloš Zeman, posthumously conferred on Jože Plečnik the Order of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk.

O knjigi:

»Posebna dragocenost pričujoče knjige je zato prav v zanosni in likovno navdušujoči predstavitvi rojstva slovenske sodobne arhitekture in njenega, v bodočnost zapisanega in usmerjenega poslanstva.«

Marko Mušič, akademik in arhitekt

»This book therefore sets out to present the inspiring and visually enchanting birth of Slovenia’s contemporary architecture and its future-oriented mission.« Marko Mušič, academician and architect
