Newsletter 14th August 2018

Talofa lava, Malo e lelei, Kia Orana, Fakalafa lahi atu, Namaste, Ni sa bula vinaka, Konichiwa

Firstly I would like to start by thanking the families who supported last weeks industrial action. Now is a very important time for education across New Zealand. Our students come to school to learn all the skills and abilities that they’ll need to grow up healthy, happy and productive in the 21st century. I believe our nation can afford to ensure every child receives the education they need to succeed in life, and for every educator to be trusted and resourced to make that a reality. It is simply a matter of priorities. Better pay, better resourcing and more support for teachers so every child gets the best education possible.

Maths Open Morning

Last weeks maths open morning was a huge sucess with 98 parents and caregivers attending. It was wonderful to see so many parents and caregivers supporting our children and participating in our daily maths programme. The children really loved sharing their learning and they certainly are very proud to have visitors in their classrooms.

Reading Morning

I am pleased to let you know that we are holding a Reading Open Morning for Parents on Thursday 6th September from 9.15 am until 11am. This is an opportunity for you to see our reading progamme at different levels school. The morning will start with a small presentation in the school hall followed by class visits. Morning tea will be served in the hall at 10.30am. We look forward to sharing our reading programme with you.

Sports Desk

Our girls' and boys' football teams took part in the inter school tournament on Friday 10 August. They all played good quality football and were very competitive. Everybody tried their very best and showed great perseverance. They were all good self managers by sticking to their positions and game plan. Great respect was shown to their opponents and referees. Communication on the field focused on always trying to improve their game and supporting each other. All players showed great team work and made Chapel Downs proud. Congratulations. Good luck to our Boys Under 50kg and Boys Over 50 kg rugby teams who will represent Chapel Downs at the Otara School Rugby tournamnet on the 31st August at Barry Curtis Park

Camp Adair

Next month all of our Year 6 students will experience a three day camp as part of our annual Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) programme. EOTC programmes provide students with access to hands-on experiences that are not available inside the classroom.

Enrolments 2018-2019

If your child is turning 5 in the next 12 months please ensure you enrol them as soon as possible. With the roll steadily growing at Chapel Downs this will enable us to keep a track of how many New Entrants we can expect in the future. Enrolment packs are available at the office.

Jump Jam

Brett Fairweather, creator of Jump Jam, visited our school last week. The Senior School had a fun time participating in a new routine and some old favourites. A big thanks to Miss York and Mrs Takiari for organising the visit.
