The Education Learning Community

Interested in teaching? The Education Learning Community is open to first year students in the School of Education. Students will collaborate with educator-scholars faculty to enhance learning in schools and other educational settings. The faculty will show students how to take advantage of their resources to enhance their education degree. These students will build strong communication and writing abilities formulating their identities as teachers and learners.

“I have seen so many positive outcomes from students who participate in our Learning Community. Not only do they receive extra support to adjust to the challenges of college life, they develop close relationships that endure throughout their academic careers. Many of the connections forged in the learning community foster stronger ties to academic programs and co-curricular activities."

Carol Williams– Education Learning Community faculty

Students in the Education LC will learn:

• how to build strong communication skills and writing abilities

• how to actively support and engage in life-long learning

• how to apply the content of their courses in formulating their identities as teachers and learners

In addition to taking fun trips around the St. Louis area (like when these students went ice skating), you'll also get the opportunity to volunteer at local schools and other community programs! These programs are often designed to enhance the classroom curriculum. All the programs are free to Education Learning Community students .

"Four years after I was in the Education Learning Community, I am still good friends with the people who were in it with me."

~ Ashley, ED Learning Community Alumni and Current Language Arts Teacher for Northwest High School
