The Desert Ecosystem By: Isabel S. 2017

The desert ecosystem forms due to the low amounts of rainfall it receives each year. Deserts cover about 20% of the earth. There are four major types of deserts- hot and dry, semiarid, coastal, and cold. They are all able to inhabit plant and animal life that are able to survive there. There is a wide variety of biotic factors that can survive the harsh conditions of the desert.

Desert biotic animals are able to survive because, their bodies are able adapt to the heat. Most of them are able to go for days to months without food, which helps them survive longer and not worry about having to find food.

There are also plenty of abiotic factors in deserts. Such as rocks, sunlight, sand, ect. All of these abiotic factors have a good purpose. For instance rocks provide shade and shelter, and sunlight provides heat which makes the biotic creatures able to adapt to their environment.
Biotic factors can not only be animals but, plants as well. A large species of plants that grow in deserts are saguaro cactus. They grow in many shapes and sizes. There is a large variety of other plants that grow as well such as, prickly pear cacti, tumbleweed, and wild flowers.
Plants and cacti like these grow in deserts.🌵
