FISH STORIES: THE BIGGEST, BRIGHTEST AND QUIRKIEST RANKINGS FROM WASHINGTON STATE PORTS
Washington state’s commercial fishing industry is really the stuff of legends – and even a Netflix series, filmed at the Port of Ilwaco in 2017 (“Battlefish”). With a total catch in 2017 of 667 million pounds, commercial fishing focuses on Dungeness Crab, Chum/Chinook/Coho/Sockeye Salmon, Geoduck, Oysters, Pacific Cod, Sardines, Anchovies, Albacore Tuna, Shrimp and Prawns, up from 552 million pounds in 2016.

PORT OF KALAMA AWARDS SPENCER CREEK BUSINESS PARK CONTRACT
The Port of Kalama board of commissioners recently awarded the contract for the Spencer Creek Business Park Phase 1 Improvements, which includes site preparation, grading, utilities, roads, a roundabout and sidewalks, new lighting and irrigation.
PORT OF VANCOUVER WINS ACEC AWARD
The Port of Vancouver USA’s West Vancouver Freight Access project won a 2019 Engineering Excellence Grand Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Oregon.
KNOWING THE WATERS
We have all heard accounts of a hacker breaking into a computer system and stealing data or locking out the system until a ransom is paid to regain access. This month, we will focus on what actions ports must take if there is an attack on the port’s computer system that could result in a release of “personal information.” We will also look at other prudent actions a port may consider to avoid or mitigate a cyber-attack.
