My earliest and fondest childhood memories were dreams of becoming a pediatric nurse. I've worked very hard to achieve my dream and in May of 2015 I graduated from the Mount Carmel College of Nursing with an RN and was immediately blessed with a career at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
My life became even more complete as I met the real and true love of my life and fellow nurse- Ricky. We were engaged in Yellowstone National Park in October of 2016 and were busy planning our September 2017 wedding, dreaming of our future filled with children, and spending the rest of our lives together.
You can work hard, plan and dream of what your life will be like, but sometimes the universe can place a detour smack dab in the middle of your dreams. My detour materialized in March 2017; I was diagnosed with cervical cancer at 25...I'm going to pause my story to let the ramifications of that diagnosis sink in for a moment...
Ricky and I have devoted our lives as nurses to easing the pain and suffering of our patients and being the best caregivers we can, yet the role of cancer patient and cancer patient fiancé, is very new and very real to us now and we are still trying to adapt. Once the diagnosis was made, our priorities have quickly shifted from wedding plans to treatment plans.
We so desperately want to have children of our own; one of the best ways to preserve this dream is to harvest and preserve my eggs in advance of cancer treatment. This $15,000 procedure and process is not covered under our insurance, so we are reaching out to the generous souls of the World for help.
We have set up a gofundme account, located here:
We apologize for the short notice, but we need to move quickly to raise the funds, so we humbly ask our family, friends, and the World for financial assistance in preserving my eggs and our future. We hope you will consider donating to the procedure-no gift amount is too small.
With love and kindest regards,
Hannah and Ricky
