Quote:

"Shakespeare apparently attracted the hostile attention of a jealous rival. Robert Greene was a university-trained writer who was among the first to attempt to make a career of writing for the stage and the commercial press. Greene’s Groats-Worth of Wit Bought with a Million of Repentance, a pamphlet published after Greene’s death in 1592, contains a harsh reference to Shakespeare."

Quote:

Sometimes playwrights influence the shape and form of a theater, but more often existing theater seem to influence the shape and form of plays.

During Shakespeare’s time, the English cared little about keeping biographical information unrelated to affairs of the church or state. In addition, playwriting was not a highly regarded occupation, and so people saw little point in recording the lives of mere dramatists. However, a number of records exist that deal with Shakespeare’s life. They include church registers and accounts of business dealings. Although these records are few and incomplete by modern standards, they provide much information. By relating these records to various aspects of English history and society, scholars have constructed a believable and largely comprehensive account of Shakespeare’s life. However, gaps remain. Perhaps the most frustrating gap is the general absence of personal papers that might provide access to the playwright’s thoughts and feelings. As a result, biographers almost always examine the plays and poems for autobiographical clues.

Paraphrase:

In this quote Shakespeare influenced people to make more theater for the audience to love it.

My Ideas:

In this quote It tell you Shakespeare have a number of record of him and various aspect English history

Quote:

First published in their entirety in 1609, the sonnets have a curious dedication, which reads, "To the onlie begetter of these ensuing sonnets Mr. W. H. all happinesse and that eternite promised by our ever-living poet wisheth the well-wishing adventurer in setting forth. T. T." (Thomas Thorpe [active 1584–1625], the printer, "the well-wishing adventurer.") Whether or not the initials "W. H." are Henry Wriothesley (the earl of Southampton) in reverse has been the subject of much speculation. Some critics instead believe that "W. H." is William Herbert (1580–1630), third earl of Pembroke, who may have been a patron of Shakespeare's.

Lander, Jesse M. "Shakespeare, William." World Book Advanced. World Book, 2016. Web. 18 Nov. 2016.

Quote:

"During his last eight years, Shakespeare was the sole author of only three plays— Cymbeline, The Tempest, and The Winter’s Tale. He collaborated with John Fletcher, another English dramatist, in writing three more plays. In the past, some scholars argued that The Tempest, written about 1610, was Shakespeare’s last play. Such a theory was encouraged by the presence in the play of passages that sound like a farewell to the stage."

Shakespeare Significance

Quote:

On the one hand, he possessed immense intellectual curiosity about the motives and actions of people. This curiosity, plus his facility with language, enabled him to write his masterpieces and to create characters who are better known than some important figures in world history. On the other hand, reflecting his middle-class background, Shakespeare was himself motivated by strictly bourgeois instincts; he was more concerned with acquiring property and cementing his social position in Stratford than he was with preserving his plays for posterity."

Quote:

A few events in Shakespeare's life during this time can also be firmly established. In 1601, his father died. In May 1602, Shakespeare made his second major investment in his hometown of Stratford (after the purchase of New Place in 1597): He purchased 107 acres of land in Stratford-upon-Avon parish from William Combe (d. 1667) and his uncle John Combe (d. 1614), members of a very wealthy family. The land consisted of open fields to the north of Old Stratford and cost the relatively large amount of £320. Further, on September 28, 1602, Shakespeare purchased from Walter Getley a nearby piece of land and cottage on Chapel Lane.

Quote:

"From 1594 to 1608, he was fully involved in the London theater world. In addition to his duties as a sharer and actor in the Lord Chamberlain’s Men, he wrote an average of almost two plays a year for his company. During much of this period, Shakespeare ranked as London’s most popular playwright, based on the number of times his plays were performed and published.
