MyFoodness is The Best Startup in Botswana
On November 9th, Botswana Innovation Hub Hosted Seedstars Local Pitch Competition in collaboration with Seedstars World, Stanbic Bank & The Udugu Institute. BIH client company, MyFoodness was named “Best Startup in Botswana” in the local round of Seedstars World and will represent the country at the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland in April 2019.
Seedstars is an exclusive global network that aims to discover/build the best seed-stage startups in emerging markets and fast-growing startup scenes. The objective is to promote entrepreneurship and invest in startups across the world. The Seedstars World Summit brings together 1200+ tech heads from over 75 countries to connect with entrepreneurs, ecosystem builders, media, corporates, investors and government officials.
MyFoodness will participate in a week-long training program, with the opportunity to meet the 65+ winners from other fast-growing economies, as well as investors and mentors from around the world. The final day of the Summit is dedicated to pitching in front of an audience of more than 1000 attendees, with the possibility of winning up to USD one million in equity investment and other prizes.
MyFoodness is a food ordering and delivery app, with cashless payment solutions built in. BIH Client Company Trains Future Coders
Botswana Innovation Hub client company Bricks 4 Kidz - Botswana hosted a Robotics Training Session for 75+ students from Acacia Primary School at the Botswana Innovation Hub Science & Technology Park. The young innovators learnt key developmental blocks of Robotics through LEGO® bricks. Bricks 4 Kidz strives on coding and robotics programs that teach students important strategies to enhance their logic and problem-solving skills, as well as help them work toward becoming future technological innovators.
Bricks 4 Kidz - Botswana programs offer skill level progression of coding concepts as students advance through multiple levels from beginner through to advanced. Students build models with LEGO®Education's EV3 elements, then control their models with the codes they write.

Botswana Insurance Holdings Limited & BIH Partner For Social Development Through Technology
The Botswana Insurance Holdings Limited Trust (BIHL Trust) partnered with Botswana Innovation Hub (BIH) to launch App for Change, a mobile application (App) development competition that aims to address BIHL’s business needs of educating, creating interest in investment & insurance and giving information about products and services offered by the BIHL Group.
The #AppForChange opened for entries on the 5th November 2018 and challenged youth Nationwide aged between 18 and 35 years of age at the time of entry.
Speaking during the launch and press briefing, the BIH Director of Marketing & Partnerships Communications, Tshepo Tsheko said the BIH role was to build an IT ecosystem between innovators and since most of these innovations come from the youth. “We support the innovators to take their innovations to the market, we also partner with academia to see how we can also take their products to the market as well”.

BIH - A PERFECT STOP OVER FOR NIGERIAN HON. MINISTER OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Botswana Innovation Hub Hosted His Honourable Dr. Christopher Ogbonnaya Onu, the Nigerian Minister of Science of Technology and his delegation early November.
The Minister engaged with the BIH Executive Team on the importance of collaboration to build innovation ecosystems within the African continent. The Minister and his delegates appreciated the BIH facilities through a tour of the state-of-the-art icon building.
His Honourable Dr. Onu is an inventor and holds six patents registered in Nigeria. He is an author with many books in technology, philosophy, biography and poetry. He is highly recognised in engineering practice as a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers, a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and a Fellow of the Academy of Engineering.
ORANGE BOTSWANA INVESTS IN THE BIH SCIENCE & TECHONOLOGY PARK
The Botswana Innovation Hub Science and Technology Park, ready as ever for developments, welcomed Orange Botswana for the ground breaking of its Tier 3 Data Centre.
The Orange Botswana Data Centre ground-breaking was attended by key business stakeholders on the 30th November 2018, a testament to Orange Botswana’s commitment to growing the telecommunications and data consumption space.
The state-of-the-art Data centre will become a central point of connectivity for national and international networking and provide world class data services to customers. Orange Botswana will invest more than P70 million on the construction project which is envisaged to create further employment in the market.
“I congratulate Orange Botswana and Botswana Innovation Hub for what is set to be an incredible journey in the development of the Orange Botswana Data Centre, here in the heart of Botswana Innovation Hub Science & Technology Park. I believe this is yet another example of the private sector coming to the party and leading conversations on how we can do better in our digitization drive” said Botswana Vice President, Slumber Tsogwane.
The construction will deliver, in 12 months, a Tier 3 Data Centre inclusive of equipment space, office space, 2 energy centres for redundant purposes and 1 tower for the backhaul and transmission. Materials and equipment to be used in construction include the latest technology, providing reliable and state-of-the-art telecommunication services in the country.
Index‐rating (Botswana), a Fin-Tech company is member of Botswana Innovation Hub under the FSVC programme. We work with different partners who play a bigger part in our services. Currently, we are monitoring our major product called Index wallet. Index wallet is a mobile money platform which allows users to transact, share and receive money with each other. Users do this through registered merchants who are local vendors.
Since we became a member of BIH, we have been mentored in product development which has assisted our company reaching our target market. The training I attended has enabled me to develop a good business model for my company and to select my ideal customers. I have met young entrepreneurs like me who we joined ventures so as to build better products. BIH has been supportive and I believe there is more that I will benefit as the years go by. I believe in a better Africa. I believe in igniting the spirit of innovation. It has been a good year filled with warm and innovative hearts. Thank you BIH and we look forward to next year.

Share Me Studio is an animation design studio that specialises in the 2D and 3D animation gaming business . The company has accomplished various projects in 2018 and we are now efficiently creating animated content that our customers enjoy. As the year came to an end we were given to opportunity to attend an international conference in South Africa. Thanks to the support of BIH we were able to engage in coproduction opportunities with South African, Nigerian and Kenyan companies in animation, game development and e-sports as well as digital comic book projects. These are projects we are finalising and intend to execute in 2019, with the continued mentorship & support of BIH
