INformation privacy

It's very important to keep your information private online. There has been so many problems with hacking and to stop it the first thing you can do is make sure you keep your personal information private!

When you are online, you should always be aware of who is getting your information and what they are going to do with it before you share any. You should know that whenever you are giving a website your email address, you are also giving them access to send you emails you don't want and they might be really annoying. On the internet, these are known as spam. Sometimes, malware is hidden in free games and programs. Malware is a software that is used to track the sites you have visited and send the information to advertisers. It can hack your email account and use it to send out spam. It can also cause annoying pop up ads to appear on your screen. Reading the privacy policy, before letting a website have your information, is very important. A lot of websites hind important information in the privacy policy . The privacy policy tells you how the website is going to use your information. So before you transmit information make sure you read the policy. A lot of people don't read it because it is long, but if you read it, it will prevent a lot of hacking and it will help keep you safe!

Online Safety

It is very important to be safe online. There have been so many big problems that have lead to bad things so we should really follow

Online, you should always keep your identity a secret. Make sure you don't give out personal information without confirm it and get permission from your parents. Websites may ask for your personal information before you can register, let your parents separate the good sites from the bad. You should always be careful with strangers online. Letting your parents know about your online friends is always a good idea. Getting your parents involved if an online friend wants to meet face-to-face, or if you wanna send a picture of yourself is always the best choice. It's best not to answer if you got a email or IM from a unfamiliar user. If you have any online friends, remember; All you know about them, is what they tell you. That makes it easy for people to hide who they really are. Protect your passwords. Keep your passwords in a safe place, and don’t tell them to anybody. If you are in a situation where someone else is making fun of you or making you feel uncomfortable, tell a adult. Be nice to people, and respect their feelings and beliefs. Most likely they’ll return the favor. Besides, you can get kicked off a website, email service, or a phone network for being rude to others.

Digital Etiquette

Digital etiquette is a set of rules for how to behave online. Unfortunately, some people can lose control the second they jump online. Like when they disagree with someone, or have strong feelings about a topic, they end up saying stuff they'd never say in person. On the internet, its pretty easy to stay anonymous. Having a secret identity to hide behind can make people pretty brave. Digital etiquette isn't always about being nice, it's also about communicating clearly. That means keeping emails and IMs clear, to the point. It also means making making your messages easy to read and understand, which can depend on your audience. For instance, some abbreviations may be fine with friends, but they are not appropriate in formal communications. A suggested tip to help make your writing clear is to re-read what you write before you send it.

cyber bullying

Cyber bullying is becoming such a big problem now since you can say things online that you wouldn't in real life. We really need to stop this and start being nice online and treat others the way we want to be treated.

Cyber bullying is bullying through the internet, or through emails and texts. It includes sending rude messages, posting embarrassing pictures or secrets about somebody, leaving someone out of online groups, or pretending to be someone to make them look bad. Victims of cyber bullying can suffer from depression, low self esteem, and even physical problems. The main reason bullies do this, is to feel better about themselves. But a lot of them don’t even realize that they’re being mean and hurtful! A lot of people forget that there is a real person with feeling like everyone else behind the screen. You shouldn't ever fight back. If the bully doesn’t stop, or is threatening your safety, there are other ways to deal with it. Save any messages, emails, or screenshots that show the cyber bullying. You can usually send complaints to websites and IM hosts, so you have those files as evidence. You can print out hard copies, too. That way, when you tell an adult what’s going on (which you should always do) you have something to show them. Many forms of cyberbullying are considered harassment, and can result in criminal charges! Sticking up for other kids is sometimes enough to scare a bully off. But the best way to stop it is not to be a cyber bully yourself. Don’t text anything you wouldn’t say in person. What may be a harmless joke to you, may be an insult by someone else. Remember: What you say online can stay there forever.

social networking

Social networking is very popular. A lot of teenagers are using it. Sometimes it could be dangerous, but most of the time it is fun way to talk to others.

Social networking is mostly used to communicate with others online. Social networking can be used for multiple things like, meeting new friends, inviting people to a party, sharing things with other people etc. There are also multiple different socials networking sites you could use, some are popular and some are not so popular. Instagram, twitter, snapchat and facebook are some of the most popular social networking sites out there. People aren’t using Email and Phone as much because of all the quicker ways to contact people. Do not post anything that you wouldn’t want strangers, friends, teachers, and parents to see because once you post something on social media, you could never take it off. (well you can but other people can save it and they could make it viral) So, be careful and safe when on social media, don’t do anything you will regret

email and im

Email and IM are very used in the internet world. But one question some people might wonder is which one is better?

Email and IM have their differences and similarities, email takes a longer time to get to the person you are trying to contact and IM(instant messages) are exactly what the name is, you could talk directly to the person somewhat like a phone call instead of waiting for a email back. IM isn’t as private as email, IM can be saved for a long time, and sometimes other people can see your messages. So, you have to be careful when using IM and don’t message anything that you wouldn’t want others to see including personal information. Email is a more formal way to contact someone and IM is a casual way, but always be careful who you talk to. Email is slower and the person doesn’t get that mail as fast as IM, but IM you could contact them right away of there online and it’s not as safe as email. One question some might wonder is; Which one is better?
