Headteacher Weekly Update 19/11/18 - 23/11/18

Book Week Scotland was celebrated in Alloa Academy this week with free books being distributed to young people, book and craft sales taking place and many other fun activities.

Staff have been working tirelessly to promote reading, as it can have a extremely positive impact on young peoples learning.

Here are a few of our top staff book reads. Please click the link to find out more.

Mental Health. Relationships. Staying Safe Online.

Alloa Academy welcomed band 'The Hara' on Thursday 22nd November.

They are a fantastic rock band, who share important messages to promote positive relationships, safe internet use and advice relating to mental health.

The music was outstanding and it was a memorable experience for our young people and staff.

Thanks to Mrs Weir who organised this excellent event.

Band Night

Well done to our pupils and staff who organised and supported Band Night.

It was nice to see the young people from across Forth Valley schools, come to Alloa Academy to support and enjoy a night of music.

We have some fantastic musical talent here and you could sense the pride, confidence and enjoyment from everyone involved.

I've heard videos of this event were taken and I will see if we can share these soon.

Swimming Champs

It is great to see many strong Alloa Academy Swimmers achieving success recently.

The group photo was taken at the Central Schools Swimming Championships on 25/11/18. They are gearing up for the Scottish Schools Championships in January 2019. Well done on your success and good luck for January.

The photo of Stewart was taken at the Scottish Disability Sport Swimming Championships in Glasgow. He won a silver medal in the 25m breaststroke. Thanks to Val for supporting.

Vision, Values and Pupil Voice.

Thank you to the group of pupils who visited our Senior Management team meeting this week. They had their say on strengths and areas for development in Alloa Academy. Their presentation was first rate and linked to the work we are all doing by revisiting our Vision and Values.

Senior Leaders have also been using the Values Pyramid (see pics) to explore their own personal values. This was a good task to help prioritise how we shape our school.

Please click on the following link to have your say.

Kind regards,

Colin Bruce
