Anemia is iron deficiency in the blood

Causes:

Loss of blood through

  • Wounds
  • menstrual cycle
  • ulcers

Iron deficiency

  • poor dietary intake
  • stomach ulcer that cause slow chronic bleeding

Anemia can be related to many different other illnesses or other bodily functions including but not limited to:

  • Kidney disease
  • Pregnancy
  • sickle cell disease
  • poor nutrition habits
  • stomach ulcers
  • cancers

Symptoms

  • fatigue
  • decreased energy
  • heart palpitations
  • lightheadedness
  • shortness of breath
  • brittle nails
  • fainting and passing out

Diagnosis

  • physical examination
  • blood test

Treatment

  • iron supplements
  • blood transfusion
  • iron rich diet

Prognosis

  • It depends on the person and why they have anemia
  • If the person has a stomach ulcer, it wil take longer to heal than some one who is lacking iron in their diet
  • anemia can be symptoms of other diseases so it depends on what they have.
