The Story of Game Day OLE MISS SOFTBALL

By 10:45 on Sunday, March 19, the Rebels arrive at the softball field for their final game in their first SEC home series against the Texas A&M Aggies. Brittany Finney, sophomore, fixes her hair as she walks from her car through the gates with junior, Bry Castro. Finney and Castro are both transfers. Finney came from defending national champions, the Oklahoma Sooners, and Castro came from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana where Ole Miss head coach, Mike Smith, came to Oxford from. The Rebels gather together in their indoor hitting facility with their bats in the air to start off the day before breaking off to hit with their groups. Before they hit in groups, they do bat warm-ups as a team. This consists of stretching their arms by swinging their bats in circles and many other exercises. Photo by Ashlee Smith, March 19, 2017
Elantra Cox, junior, has some down time before the game to help senior, Miranda Strother with her hair. Before every game, these two will do this exact same thing and they both also pray together right before they line up for player introductions. Strother is from Suwanee, Ga. and Cox is from Henderson, Tenn. Photo by Ashlee Smith, March 19, 2017
Freshman, Morgan Bruce, pitches to a Texas A&M Aggie while another one is on second. Bruce pitched 2.1 innings in her outing against the Aggies. She gave up six hits and two runs. She walked three people and struck out one. She leads the team in earned run average with a 1.77. She is 7-1 on the season. Photo by Ashlee Smith, March 19, 2017
During the National Anthem, every Ole Miss softball player holds a number three behind their back with their left hand. This three is in remembrance of fellow Ole Miss Rebel athlete, Ty Laporte, who lost her life in a car accident a little over a year ago on February 12, 2016. Laporte was a volleyball player at Ole Miss and many of the softball players knew her as a friend. Photo by Ashlee Smith, March 19, 2017
