James Buchanan Softball is in full swing, playing scrimmages against Chambersburg and McConnellsburg to prepare them for the season.

Q: What has the team been doing to prepare for the season?

Kyrstin Nichols (12): "The team has had open gyms, we have been practicing six days week, and we are doing a lot of batting drills to cut back on strikeouts."

Maria Burkett (12): "We've been practicing for the past few months inside to stay in shape and sharpen up during the winter to prepare for the season."

Q: What are some of the goals that the team has this year?

Nichols: "We hope to cut back on errors and to win the Mid Penn conference."

Burkett: "We plan to got to Districts and hopefully States too."

Q: How does the team plan to reach this goal?

Nichols: "The team plans to reach our goals by working and coming together as a team."

Burkett: "We plan to work hard every day at practice and work together as a team because everyone has an important role to play."

James Buchanan's Baseball team is anxiously awaiting the start of their season. With scrimmages against McConnellsburg and Chambersburg in the next week. The Baseball team is preparing for the upcoming season.

Q: What has the team been doing to prepare for the season?

Derek Pine (12): "The team has started two-a-day practices, one in the morning from 6:30-7:30 and then 3:30- 6:00 in the afternoon."

Gavin Barnhart (12): "We have been doing a lot of lifting and morning workouts to prepare for the season."

Q: What are some of the goals that the team has this year?

Pine: "Give one hundred percent, end with a winning record, and individually improve from the year before."

Brady Bigler (11): "Put pressure on the other teams, get runners on base, steal a lot, and play a lot of small ball."

Q: What is your favorite drill that you do on a normal practice day?

Pine: "I like working on in-fielding drills and pitching the best at practice."

Barnhart: "My favorite thing to do at practice is to catch fly balls off of the pitching machines."

Sprinting into the track season on March 30 James Buchanan starts their Track & Field season with the Tim Cook Invitational at Chambersburg High School.

Q: What have you done to prepare yourself for the season?

Daniel Corcoran (12): “I’ve been training in the off-season by lifting and running.”

Ella Jones (12): “I’ve been going to the gym and pre-season workouts to prepare for this year's season.”

Q: What are some of the goals that the team has this year?

Corcoran: “We want to be competitive within our division and be in the race for the division championship.”

Jones: ”Our team goal is to break our losing streak.”

Q: How do you prepare yourself the night before a meet?

Corcoran: “I eat secret pre-game meal the night before every meet and get lots of sleep.”

Jones: “I make sure I get a good night's rest and I overload on carbs.”

The James Buchanan Tennis team is quickly approaching their season. With two games down, the Tennis team has 1-1 record.

Q: What have you done to prepare yourself for the season?

Levi Grove (11): "We team bonded by hitting together to prepare for the season."

Paul Dzieciol (11): "Levi and I practiced hitting over the summer to prepare for the season."

Q: What are some of the goals that the team has this year?

Grove: "Our goal is to make it to the second day at Mid Penns."

Dzieciol: "My goal is to be at least 600 by the end of the season."

Q: How has the start to your season gone so far?

Grove: "It has gone well, we won our first match."

Dzieciol: "I'm super excited for the rest of the season and I'm on track for my goal."
