The U.S. And Mexican War

U.S. Lieutenant Napoleon was sent to the Rio Grande from Louisiana. Dana and his soldiers were expecting war with Mexico.

In November 1845 President James K. Polk sent John Slidell to Mexico. But Mexico refused to work with him.

Polk ordered Zachary Taylor and his soldiers to Texas. They were supposed to protect the new state of California from attack.

General Zachary Taylor received a letter ordering him to return to the east bank of the Nueces. But he refused and the Mexicans attacked them.

Offensive means a major troop advance. Winfield Scott. President Polk replaced Taylor with Winfield Scott.
