The Southern Ute Indian Reservation is located in southwestern Colorado near the Northern State line of New Mexico. Normally I shoot all my images from which I paint, however, my American History series are painted from images gathered from Colorado History Museums.
The image was originally shot by W.J. Carpenter
I began this large piece by blocking in large masses of color, loosely in form and general in drawing.
Over the next few weeks I narrowed the focus to drawing, color harmonies, and layers of complex transparencies.
Finally, after several months, the completed works hanging at Evergreen Fine Art Gallery where is hangs today... waiting for someone to take this newly imaged piece of history home.
