#thankfulThursday

The office staff would like your help in recognizing our staff. Please take a few moments and use the link below to provide some encouragement to those folks that are making a major difference in your child's future. These comments can be anonymous, or you can provide your name. The office staff will use the provided comments every Thursday for our #thankfulThursday movement. The attached form can be completed, as little or often as you like, throughout the entire school year. We appreciate your support in growing the culture of gratitude that already exists at MIS!!

A couple of comments shared this week:

"Mrs. Blasdel has been a blessing to my students and myself during her tenure in sixth grade at MIS. She is such an advocate for all of her students and always strives to give her best to her students to make sure her students are successful in class and in life. Thank you Mrs. Blasdel for all you do!!!"

"I am very thankful for Mrs. Reynold’s help working with my students! From working with extension groups, to helping students stay caught up on class work, she is so helpful and very appreciated!! Thank you for everything, Mrs, Reynolds!"

STAFF RECOGNITION AND RETIREMENT

Please join me in congratulating Mrs. Pam Parsons, MIS Health Assistant, and Mr. Scott Berrier, 5th Grade ELA Teacher, who were both recognized yesterday as our 2020-21 Peer Appreciation Award Winners. There are few greater honors than being selected by your peers for a job well done.

Finally, a great big congratulations to Mrs. Ellen Jones. Mrs. Jones will be retiring at the end of this school year. Mrs. Jones served all thirty-six of her years in education in the same building serving both middle and intermediate school aged students. We wish Mrs. Jones all the best in her retirement.

lunch menu flip-flop next week

Some of our teachers plan to have lunch with their students in either the classroom or, weather permitting, outside. Therefore, the lunch menus on Monday and Thursday will be flipped next week to allow us to be more mobile. The menu for these two days will be as follows:

Monday: Spaghetti w/ Meat Sauce, mixed salad, apple slices

Thursday: Cheeseburger on bun, french fries or tater tots, diced peaches

Overdue Library Books

We still have many library books that have not been returned. Most years, we find most of these in the bottom of lockers. However, this year is a little different as that is not a possibility. Therefore, we would ask that you have your child check around the house. Students who have books still out have been notified and slips have gone home with information as to replacement cost should the book not be returned. If payment becomes necessary, cash or checks (made out to MIS) are accepted. Parents may contact Mrs. Elsbury (melsbury@gcsc.k12.in.us) with any questions.

yearbooks

There are a few soft cover yearbooks remaining for sale. If you did not originally order one and would like to purchase one, they are $19. Checks should be made out to Maxwell IS. They will be sold on a first come- first serve basis until gone. No additional books will be ordered. We will not hold books; therefore, students and/or parents must have money at the time of purchase.

Current 6th Grade Parents

At the link below, you will find information provided by the junior high regarding your child's experience in 7th grade. The video provides details about the schedule, athletics, as well as additional information that will be of interest to you and your child as he/she prepares to move onto the junior high next fall.

The Junior High is offering a few summer enrichment camps for next year's 7th & 8th grade students. Attached is a list of those courses being offered.

end of year awards

We will be holding an awards program during the school day to honor our students at the end of the year. However, it will not be an in-person event for parents.

Each grade level is planning a cohorted event that will be recorded. The link to the recording will be pushed out to parents so that the program can be viewed at a convenient time.

COvid reminders

As COVID rates continue to rise, we kindly remind you not to send your child to school if someone in your household has a pending test or if your child is exhibiting COVID-like symptoms. Please help us finish the year strong and allow as many students to be on site as possible.
