Who Were The Sophists?

Sophists were experienced teachers in ancient Greece. They moved to different cities, and made a profit by teaching others.

About Their Philosophy

They thought that students should spend their time making themselves better. Many even taught their students how to win debates and make great political speeches.

They also did not believe that gods and goddesses influenced other people. They also thought that what could be correct for one person, could be incorrect for another.

How They Impacted Ancient Greek Society

The main way that the Sophists impacted the society was by developing the art of debates and public speaking.

Modern Examples of Greek's Philosiphy

You can see debates and public speeches every where! A lot of politicians use it to make an important point or to win an argument with someone else.
