Impression Era Shiloh Stuart

Artist-The Impressionists loosened their brushwork and lightened their palettes to include pure, intense colors. They concentrated on the world as they saw it. Scientific thought at the time was beginning to recognize that what the eye perceived and what the brain understood were two different things. Its originators were artists who rejected the official, government-sanctioned exhibitions, or salons, and were consequently shunned by powerful academic art institutions.A theory or style of painting originating and developed in France during the 1870's, characterized by concentration on the immediate visual impression produced by a scene and by the use of unmixed primary colors and small strokes to simulate actual reflected light.

Music- Focuses on suggestion and atmosphere, "conveying the moods and emotions aroused by the subject rather than a detailed tone‐picture". Creative exploration of musical timbre via orchestration certainly predates the Impressionist period, but it was especially this generation that opened up timbre as a first-tier parameter, to be exploited and pursued in its own right. Unusual usage or combinations of instruments, particularly at soft dynamic levels, are a common feature and give the works a distinctly "coloristic" sound, that would open up new possibilities to later composers.A style of art music of the late 1800's and early 1900's, often evoking a dreamy mood and characterized by modal or whole-tone scales, rich and often dissonant harmonies in unconventional progressions, and the avoidance of traditional forms.

Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel

Writers-Impressionistic literature can be defined as a work created by an author that centers on the thinking and feelings of the characters and allows the reader to draw his or her own interpretations and conclusions about their meaning.A literary style characterized by the use of details and mental associations to evoke subjective and sensory impressions rather than the re-creation of objective reality.

I was unable to find clear information stating who were writers during the impression era.

the impression era laid the foundation for post-impression because it really opened the doors to new art. Art was stating to be viewed in a different way and the thing that i like the most about this time period is the fact that it was beginning to become abstract. I love abstract art it speaks to many people in different ways. It can mean something to one person while meaning something the complete opposite to someone else. i enjoyed the art that came after the impression era more, but i felt like without this era happening first you would of never seen the post-impression era.

The Impressionist composers had two favorite mediums: the orchestra and the piano . The Impressionist painters, as we have seen, tried to capture the movement of color and light. Music is predominantly the art of abstract movement. This era focused on being abstract.
