Thank you for signing up to be an Ambassador for the 2017 Do More 24 Campaign! Read on to find out everything you need to know to help make this year our most successful yet.

What is do more 24?

Do More 24 is a local movement that is leveraging the power of a crowd to support our region's most effective nonprofits through focused, online giving. It's all happening on June 8th and for one day only.

The Accokeek Foundation is participating in this campaign for the second year in a row. We have a goal to raise $40,000 for the Heritage Livestock Conservation program, and we need your help to make it happen!

We will be asking people to "give and get" on June 8. First, GIVE a donation of $24, $48, $124, $240, or $480. Then, GET 5 additional people to give as well. This is an opportunity for us to reach exponentially more people in the DC Metro area while raising awareness about heritage breed livestock.

How will each donation support the program?

  • $24: Acquires 6 new heritage breed chicks for the Foundation's poultry flock
  • $48: Supports educational programming about heritage breeds
  • $124: Funds 100 feet of new fencing for livestock paddocks
  • $240: Purchases equipment needed for veterinary care, poultry incubation, and cattle milking
  • $480: Helps to increase independent farms' access to heritage breeding stock

United Way of the National Capital Area

Do More 24 is sponsored by the United Way of the National Capital Area, and they will be helping to get the word out to members of the community. The theme this year is "start your activism at home" as they want to highlight the great organizations serving right here in our community.

United Way will be offering special prizes to organizations throughout the day for fundraising milestones (such as most donations made, most money raised, most raised during advanced giving). These prizes give us a chance to double the impact of donations made during specific periods of the day.

Advanced Giving

A new feature of this year's campaign is the advanced giving period. For two weeks prior to June 8 (starting on May 25), donors will be able to sign on and make an early gift to the campaign. This advanced commitment will help us get a jump start on our $40,000 goal and there is even a prize for most money raised during this two-week period.

We have provided photos and graphics for you to share on social media, templates for e-mail messages, tweets, and facebook posts, shareable web pages with information about our breeds, and important links.


Do More Landing Page

If you take nothing else from this toolkit, you will need this link. This is the landing page for the Accokeek Foundation's campaign, and it is the most important thing to share on June 8.

Currently, this page has information about the Foundation and the heritage breed campaign. But starting on May 25, this link will allow donors to begin making advanced giving pledges. On June 8, the main donation link will go live, and all campaign donations will be made through this page.

All donations must be made through our DoMore landing page!

Social Media

Do More is a social campaign that relies on crowd sourcing and peer-to-peer fundraising. In the coming weeks, we will be sharing photos, videos, and save-the-date information on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

On June 8, we will be posting almost hourly about the campaign and the Heritage Breed Conservation program. As we seek to reach new audiences and connect with members of the community that have never been to Piscataway Park, sharing these posts will be one of the most helpful things you can do as an Ambassador.

If you've gotten to this point and you're worried because you're not very active on social media, take a deep breath. E-mail will be an important part of our Do More strategy as well.

We'll be sending out e-mails in the coming weeks that you can forward on to your friends and family, or you can use the sample e-mail template provided.

OR BETTER YET, tell everyone a story about why Piscataway Park is special to you. What made you want to be an Ambassador for this campaign in the first place? Have you had a hilarious or inspiring interaction with one of the critters found in the barnyard? Personalizing our templates will have a much bigger impact with the people who know you best.
