John Milton

John Milton was born on December 9, 1608 and died on November 8, 1674. John Milton loved to write. He was the next greatest English writer of modern times after Shakespeare.

John Milton became a great champion for freedom of the press and for liberty in the church and the state. But, he is best known for writing a poem that was his masterpiece, which is called "Paradise Lost". His poem was the greatest poem in the English language.

This poem was very long and he John Milton continued writing it, until he reached 12 books...

Soon, William Hayley's 1796 biography called him "The greatest English author".

Later when John Milton passed away, Samuel Johnson, praised "Paradise Lost" with respect.
