AMC Newsletter Q2 2019 // April - May - June

2019 is well underway and the weather is warming up! With the pretty weather and spring time comes the crawfish boils and the golf tournaments. Here at AMC we are busy coordinating the last minute details for these fun, outdoor events - making sure sponsors and members have a great time and ample time to network. This is the time to start looking ahead to the summer and deciding on any special events you may want to host such as happy hours or casino nights. We know it seems early, but we are already busy booking venues for holiday parties. Restaurants and hotels fill up fast, so if you haven't already done so, talk to your account manager about your holiday party today!

Besides the planning events and meetings, tax season is here, so we are busy working on the tax returns for those of you on a calendar fiscal year. The deadline is May 15, which is quickly approaching. As a reminder, taxes are due five and half months after the close of the fiscal year for those of you on a different calendar.

At AMC, we are looking forward to working with you to make the rest of your 2019 events truly special! -Lori

Q1 2019: By The Numbers

Our Big Events Spotlight

  • CFA Texas 5th Annual Investor Summit: another successful conference for our CFA societies. We had 230 attendees listen to fifteen industry experts and interact with twelve sponsoring companies in the exhibitor hall.
  • CFA Houston Annual Forecast Dinner & CFA Austin Annual Investment Dinner: these two events went off without a hitch! Houston pulled in $46,500 from 25 sponsors and entertained 350 attendees. In Austin, a panel of three speakers spoke to 300 registrants. Twenty-seven companies came out to support the event, raising over $56,000.
  • Society of FSP Woodson Award Banquet: boasting the highest attendee count in years, this banquet raised $11,000 in sponsorship money.
  • FEI Houston Academic Honors Day: In February this organization in conjunction with the FEI Houston Scholarship Foundation gave out $60,000 in scholarships to 12 local schools in a special dinner held at the Houston Country Club.
There's Money in the Details

As we all know, money is one of the biggest concerns of running an association. Making money is hard but holding on to it can prove to be just as difficult. Over the years, we have seen how small decisions can be costly down the line, whereas others can turn an event from breaking even to being profitable.

When it comes to events and meetings, there are several ways to cut down costs to ensure a good margin. Shopping around to compare pricing and food and beverage minimums is highly recommended. It is surprising how much the price for the same room in a venue can fluctuate. For example, one venue we use charges more for a Tuesday or Wednesday night event than they do for an event hosted on a Monday night. Knowing this allows the you to make decisions on when to schedule meetings, choosing the cheaper option when possible. If your group likes to meet weekly, these savings can add up quickly!

Try Somewhere New!

We are constantly looking for new venues for our meetings to keep things fresh. Here are some of our new favorite finds.

  • The Clubs of Kingwood
  • Royal Sonesta
  • Eunice
  • BB Lemon
Member-Only events are a great way to engage your membership and offer up elite industry knowledge. This privilege add to the benefits offered to members, while driving non-members to join the organization to partake in these exclusive meetings.
