Newsletter 14th May 2021

Headteacher Comment

I’d like to start my message today with a 'thank you' to Mrs Jones one of our Reception class teaching assistants. She has dedicated nine years to Greenfields Primary School and Nursery and has touched the hearts and minds of so many children and adults. Mrs Jones will be missed. Please join me in wishing her every success in her new job, which also allows her time to spend with her grandchildren.

Singing at Greenfields continues to be one of our key areas of creative strength, and we are proud to hold 'Singing School' status. I wanted to let you know what a joy it continues to be as I walk the school corridors and hear the talented singers across our school. I encourage you to talk to you children about their learning and don't forget to ask them about their singing too.

From Monday, following the national guidance, face coverings for all parents/carers at pick up and drop off times will be optional. The same will apply for staff outside. However, staff will continue to wear face coverings when in shared spaces inside the school building. Very minor tweaks are being made to the school's COVID Risk Assessment but essentially we carry on as we are; remain in our 'bubbles', staggered start and finish times, staggered breaks and lunch, reduced movement around the school building, essential visitors only, a pause to all parent events and increased cleaning.

There's lots of information on this week's Newsletter including transition dates for secondary schools in July, half-term Holiday Camp and a message from our parent and community group FROGS (Friends of Greenfields School), who are looking forward to lockdown lifting. As always, if you have any questions or would like further clarification regarding any school matters, please do not hesitate to get in touch via the school office, who will direct you query appropriately: admin@greenfields-pri.co.uk

Enjoy the weekend and see you all on Monday.

London Landmarks

This week in Dragonflies, the class have been learning all about London for their Talk for Writing non-fiction text. They have learnt names and facts about landmarks in London and today the children even had a go at building some of them using different materials. The class worked fantastically as a group, using their imaginations to construct some of the landmarks in London.

Swinging, climbing, dunking fun....

This week in PE, Remarkable Rhinos did something a little bit different and used the indoor PE equipment.

Children loved showing off their climbing, balancing and swinging skills and were incredibly confident, some even faced their fears of heights and got to the top of the climbing frame.

Striking Statues of Queen Boudicca

This week Year Four/Five completed their learning about The Romans in Britain.

Children were learning all about Boudicca and the events of her life. It was great learning about such a powerful, determined female leader - what a great role model!

Take a look at some of the amazing work the children have completed.

Home School Agreement

As we become more used to our online way of working, we thought it was important to add to our home/school agreement (that you signed when your child started at Greenfields) to include online learning. Please follow the link below to complete this short addition relating to online learning with Greenfields Primary School and Nursery.

Class Code and Google Link

Teachers are looking forward to posting their ‘Flipping Greenfields’ videos this Friday in time for the weekend. Each one is all about next week’s learning, so will get your child prepared for a flying start on Monday. Research shows that children who feel prepared for the coming week are less anxious about school, happier to get up and go on a Monday morning and achieve better than those who are not.

Friends and Relatives of Greenfields School

You may remember the days before the pandemic, Greenfields used to host a number of events and fund raising activities for the school. This was run by the outstanding group of dedicated friends and relatives to the school who made up F.R.O.G.S. The wonderful team organised school discos, fetes, and Easter egg hunts to name but a few. The money raised has paid for a school minibus and outside play equipment. Now the pandemic is easing within England, FROGS are looking to start up again in September 2021 and raise some much needed money for the school and more importantly add in some extra fun for the children. If you would like to help in any way then please click on the link below and add your name and what help you can give. There is no commitment required and you can help as a one off or help in all events. If you would like more information click the button below.
