DINGLEY VILLAGE DOSSIER ARTICLE – March 2017

Dingley Village Community Association (DVCA)

Dingley Neighbourhood Character

We actively encourage objections to all high density developments in Dingley Village, like the Dairy site and the clusters currently being constructed opposite Interhealth Medical Centre in Centre Dandenong Road.

These developments are setting a precedent, as when there are significant numbers, our objection on the grounds of "Village Character", will be watered down by ever-increasing high density examples in Dingley Village.

Whilst Dingley Village does not have many heritage houses, each time a single dwelling house is demolished for a large multi-unit development, the resulting loss of trees, gardens and impact on our neighbourhood amenity further erodes the special character of Dingley Village.

We welcome the neighbourhood character study to be carried out by Kingston Council this year, which we hope will provide a means of protecting our unique "Village Character".

High density is not our Village Character

Traffic Back-up Congestion - Centre Dandenong Road east of Boundary Road, Dingley Village

The DVCA contacted Vic Roads about this traffic problem in Dingley Village, requesting consideration of an extension to the left turn lane further along Centre Dandenong Road. This would allow left turners to exit Centre Dandenong Road safely and speed up the flow of traffic through the Boundary Road lights.

Vic Roads has advised it is investigating various options to improve congestion in this area as part of a wider network consideration for the south-east corridor (namely Mordialloc Bypass). However any improvement proposals in the area, including the extension of the left turn lane, will be considered for funding under a future program.

VicRoad's reply is extremely disappointing - as this is a serious traffic access issue for Dingley Village with the congestion along Centre Dandenong Rd to the Church roundabout needing immediate attention now.

CBA ATM

Great to see the new CBA ATM in the Dingley Village Shopping Centre. It can be found near the Post Office at the corner to the walkway to the rear car park.

Our Shopping Centre banking services now include the Bendigo Community Bank branch and ATM, together with NAB, WBC and CBA ATMs.

DINGLEY VILLAGE DOSSIER ARTICLE – December 2016

Dingley Village Community Association (DVCA)

Congratulations to our North Ward Councillors - City of Kingston

Cr Tamara Barth, Cr Steve Staikos and Cr George Hua

Congratulations to Cr Steve Staikos and Cr Tamara Barth on their re-election and to Cr George Hua on his election to the City of Kingston.

As our North Ward councillors for the next 4 years, DVCA looks forward to their representation at Kingston Council of the important issues facing Dingley Village.

Our Local Dingley Village Community Bank

Closure of the CBA ATM in the Dingley Village shopping centre reminds us how important the services and facilities provided by our local Bendigo Community Bank are, with both a branch and ATM available to us at our shopping centre.

We are fortunate to have local banking services here and supporting our local Bendigo Community Bank is in your interests.

How thankful we are to the vision of the far-sighted Dingley residents who facilitated the opening of our local Bendigo Community Bank branch back in 2001 - they certainly were on the money !!

Braeside Park Governor Road Gate Closure Times - Reminder

When visiting Braeside Park for a walk, cycle, picnic, BBQ, play in the natural beauty of its bush, wetlands and heathlands, please don't forget Park Gate closure times.

Governor Road - Entry and Exit Gates close at 4pm daily ( Redgum car park access gates)

Lower Dandenong Road - 24 hours - with one way exit spikes

Proposed 130 Hectares Cemetery at Heatherton - Update

A proposed development for a 130 hectare cemetery in Heatherton by the Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (SMCT) was made to the State Government in September 2015.

The proposed development is still under consideration by the State Government, with a decision by the Government seeming unlikely before 2018.

Stay Safe - Burglary Prevention Advice from Snr Constable Lisa Dobbey, Victorian Police

Thieves look for easy targets. Unlocked cars, homes with doors or windows open, items of value left within sight or easy reach are all easy targets for a thief.

Our greatest issue with thefts from cars is that people continue to leave their vehicles unlocked. We have almost complete control over whether or not our car gets broken into. Lock your doors and windows and remove your belongings. A thief will try door handles on the likely chance one is unlocked, and will then have a good look inside. If the doors are locked, they may have a look inside but if they don’t see anything they want, they won’t smash your window. They’ll try another car. Remember what YOU think is valuable and what a thief does, may be two different things. Your empty old handbag on the back seat may not look empty and worthless to a thief.

More crime prevention information is available at www.police.vic.gov.au

All of us need to be on the alert as there is an increasing amount of crime being reported in Dingley Village and it is very disappointing to report that the newly renovated Marcus Road Service Station was broken into (front door smashed) at the start of November. It is sad to have a new business targeted by thieves here in Dingley Village.
