TRANSPIRE NEWSLETTER APRIL 2019

Highlights

Paints, Plates and Mates

In our last newsletter we covered a story about our 'Paints, Plates and Mates' event. We recently got everything back after being in the kiln and they look amazing! Well done to all of you that took part!

Volunteer Coffee Morning

This was something completely new for Transpire! We set up our coffee morning to invite prospective volunteers to come along, learn about the group and the services we provide. We would like to formally give a warm welcome to Teresa, Megan, Ryan and Claire who have signed up for various roles within our admin team! Volunteering is the life blood for many community groups. By having more talented volunteers we are able to undertake more within Transpire to benefit our community and to keep the group sustainable.

Team Meetings

After our coffee morning we had a team meeting to discuss our road map for 2019. A lot of changes have already been put through for this year with new team structures, engaging more with local organisations and making use of new networking opportunities.

We have already seen positive impacts of these changes with more volunteers joining Transpire, adhoc volunteering at events, better tooling for our social media team, new venues and increased community engagement.

Support in the community

One of our members, Prue, kindly organised a fundraiser for Transpire at The Cliff Pub. The event had amazing support from people in the Southend community. On the night they had a number of hilarious and fun acts enjoyed by all followed by a thank you speech by one of our community liaisons Gina. By the end of the night they had raised a whopping £155! So a BIG thank you to everyone that took part and contributed to a fabulous evening!

The money raised is going into a new project that Transpire is currently working on. We are purchasing a new PA system that will be used as part of an open mic/talent night. This will enable people, especially our younger members, to show off their skills! Keep an eye out on our events page!

Designing Printed Textiles with Patrick Moriarty

We truly are blessed in Southend with the amount of talent and craftsmanship floating around!

Transpire has secured a number of private classes with designer and owner of Paisley Power, Patrick Moriarty. These workshops are being held at METAL Southend and enable students to learn about printed design techniques by transforming hand-drawn motifs, photographic imagery, graphics, watercolour illustration, doodles or small objects into eye-catching textile prints in one creative evening, with 1-2-1 guidance.

"Thanks for a cool workshop last night! I’m really chuffed with how my design came out considering I know absolutely nothing about photoshop haha!".

"It was a great evening, thank you for organising everything."

Meet & Eat @ Twenty One

Another exciting new venue for Transpire. Our first April Meet & Eat was held at Twenty One. A modern and welcoming space with tech to boot! For this event we welcomed two of our members who gave short presentations.

The first presentation was led by Geri Panayotova owner of Flawless Skin about various techniques involving laser hair removal.

The second presentation was given by Dr. Merline Evans exploring the prehistoric history of Essex and Southend.

We would also like to thank members of Transpire who kindly donated their time with preparing a tasty buffet.

William, Annette, Ryan, Gina and Jane all helped prepare refreshments for our Meet & Eat.

Thank you

We would like to once again thank Prue and the team at The Cliff Pub who arranged a fundraiser for us. On behalf of everyone at Transpire please accept a BIG hug to each and every one of you for your generosity, energy and support!

A loud shout out to all of you that have made donations as individuals or by purchasing merchandise to help support the group! Your contributions really do make a difference!

To Jason for donating some great quality clothing to raise funds at our last Meet and Eat. Our first Donate and Take clothing stall raised over £50!

Also a huge standing ovation for all of our volunteers. Without their passion, drive and dedication for our cause, Transpire simply would not be!

Supporting Transpire with Donations

Over the last three years Transpire have been very fortunate to have the financial support from a number of organisations. Last year we were awarded a grant by the Peoples Health Trust. This fund has had a huge impact on the group. Enabling Transpire as a voluntary community group to run multiple events throughout the year. But we still need donations to help keep the group running sustainably.

Did you know that on average each Meet & Eat event costs Transpire £150 to run. This includes the venue hire, food and drink for the buffet and the raffle prizes. These are some of our most popular events, enjoyed by everyone in our local community. Transpire also has other operational costs like running our phone service, website hosting, book keeping, printed material such as leaflets, insurances and safeguarding checks.

You can help support Transpire in the following ways:

Upcoming Events

Meet & Eat @ Utopia - Friday 26th April

Our month end event at the cosy Utopia is only a few weeks away! We will have our usual buffet with the added extra of clothes table. Some of our members have kindly donated items of clothing they no longer wear. Grab yourself a bargain and help raise funds for Transpire at the same time!

There will also be board games available upstairs, so you can challenge your fellow Transparians to a game or two!

May Events

We are still working out dates but we hope to have the return of 'Creatures and Eaters' in early to mid May. Never held a python? Well now's your chance!
