Beyond our school yard - Christmas Boxes and Smiles2U Christmas Present Appeal
It is starting to look a lot like Christmas!
For many children this is an exciting time of the year but unfortunately for others due to personal circumstances or illness there are no Christmas trees nor presents and time spent in hospital beds.
As part of our initiative to encourage our children to consider others, ‘Beyond our school yard’ (part of our School Committee and run in conjunction with our SRC) is supporting two charities to help spread joy this Christmas time.
For the fourth year running, we will be supporting Operation Christmas Child (OCC) – sending a shoebox of gifts to those in need overseas. Last year we provided over 130 boxes, which was a great effort, overall the Australian branch of OCC sent 327,841 gifts overseas. We are hoping that this year, our school community can provide 200 gift-filled shoe boxes to children. The SRC will be handing out boxes this week to your child’s classroom. Please encourage your child to collect a box or you can collect one from the office.
In addition, this year we will also be collecting gifts for the Smiles2U charity, which provides love and care to patients in local North Shore Hospitals. The gifts will be go to boys and girls aged 0 – 16 who will unfortunately be spending Christmas in our local hospitals. We would like to encourage your child to bring in an unwrapped present for either a boy or girl aged between 0-16 years and place it under the tree in the office.
Both initiatives will run until early December.
We thank you in advance and look forward to bringing some cheer to those less fortunate this year!

Remembrance Day Church Service
On November 10 the students and staff of Wahroonga Adventist School participated in a special 100th anniversary Remembrance Day service at Wahroonga Adventist Church. The program, organised by Pr. Richie, included a flag bearing procession of School Captains, Adventurers, Pathfinders and students to the sound of a lone bagpipe. The School Captains then led out by laying the wreath, reading the Ode to the Fallen, and observing the minute silence, and Tom J played a rousing rendition of The Last Post and Reveille on his trumpet. The teachers led the congregation in an uplifting song service, and the Junior Choir performed the song ‘You Raise me Up’ as a special item. All were blessed by this moving ceremony and the students represented our school with respect and dignity.

Hornsby Kuring-gai Basketball Gala Day
On Friday November 9th the Year 3/4 and 5/6 basketball teams participated in the annual Hornsby Kuringai Basketball Association Gala Day. All four teams competed at a high level and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship, team work and camaraderie in support of each other. The Year 3/4 girls went undefeated on the day while the 3/4 boys won all but one of their games - both excellent efforts. The 5/6 girls put forward a great effort, persisting with only a few substitutes to come home with a win, the 5/6 boys drew their first matchup and went on to win the rest of their games for the day.
A big thank you to the parents who came along to support and assist with coaching on the day. It is great to see a generation of strong young basketball players with a great team spirit. We look forward to the many more successful basketball outings to come!
