Otto von Bismarck

Germany became a modern unified nation under the leadership of Otto von Bismarck. who between 1862 and 1890 effectively ruled first prussia and then all of germany. Bismarck initiated decisive wars with denmarck, austria, and france to unite 39 german states under prussian leadership. Bismarck introduced progressive reforms including male sufferage and the establishment of the first welfare state in order to acheive his goals.
