Refocusing on Mission

Generally speaking, a mission statement is defined as the overall purpose of an organization. Corporate strategists would refer to them as a company’s reason for existing. Some time ago, a small group of us from varying areas of the bank were tasked with revising and updating the written declaration of our organization's core purpose. While a mission statement would normally remain unchanged over time, the statement that was in place was a rather lengthy and a bit dated.

What was needed was a specific position piece that reflected the overarching focus of a $1.6 billion corporation that served people throughout the Midwest.

As you can imagine, this project was incredibly broad in scope and open to a significant amount of interpretation. It certainly would depend a great deal on the perspective of those participating and the context in which they viewed their position with the corporation.

By revisiting the input gathered from past employee surveys, we were able to isolate the themes that reflected the opinions of over 250 FFBT personnel.

The honest feedback provided in the surveys provided valuable thoughts on what FFBT stands for.

With open minds and a good deal of discussion, we slowly came to realize that our main goal was to showcase our shared roles in supporting our clients, our communities, and our coworkers.

To do this we crafted both a mission statement that reflected our traditional ties to agriculture and a statement of vision that stated our commitment to our community as defined by our clients, coworkers, and our shareholders.

The Mission of First Farmers Bank & Trust is to foster a commitment to the Relationships that serve and grow our Community while focusing on agriculture financial services.
