Davy Crockett wrote a letter to his children while Mexican forces were marching on Texas

Jose de Urrea was the Mexican General who was headed toward Goliad along the Gulf Coast with anotehr army

James "Jim" Bowie was sent to San Antonio to evaluate the situation.

The alamo's former name was the San Antonio de Valero Mission.

William B. Travis was ordered, by Smith, to raise a force to assist Bowie.

James Bonham and a volunteer force from Alabama called the Mobile Grays also joined the Texas defenders.

The defenders of the Alamo gave heir lives in a desperate effort to hold back the Mexican army.

Green Jameson, a 29-year-old lawyer was in charge of strengthening the plaza walls.

The walls were 29 feet high and 2 feet thick.

The Alamo became a symbol to many Texans that they must fight on at any cost.
