Harmony Day - Everyone Belongs

On Harmony Day we think and talk about the different cultures and languages that people contribute to our country. It is a day to celebrate, learn and understand how all Australians from diverse backgrounds equally belong to this nation and make it a better place. It is a day when we celebrate the values of tolerance, respect and working together. In our Anzac Park school community we have families from many different cultural backgrounds. As you can see from the infographics below, we truly are a diverse and thriving community! This week we are celebrating Harmony Day at Anzac Park. Make sure your child wears a SPLASH of orange on Friday!

Accelerating Reading at Anzac Park

This week our leadership team met with Literacy Strategy Advisors from the Teaching Quality and Impact Directorate to discuss and review our current approach to teaching reading and comprehension. During the day, we reviewed student data, shared what teaching and learning looks like across K-6 and discussed current research and best practice. As a team we designed a data-driven personalised reading approach to empower teachers to drive reading comprehension growth. We are excited to continue to focus on providing our teachers with the tools they need to focus on what matters and inspire a classroom of readers.

Creating a Safe Environment

Last week our teachers came together to review our student wellbeing data and discuss possible strategies to support creating teaching and learning environments that enable students to be healthy, happy, engaged and successful at Anzac Park. Teachers discussed classroom and school-wide strategies and developed a plan to build in student wellbeing to respond to their grade data.

Winter Uniform Reminder

We are always so proud of our students when they arrive at school each day in full school uniform. Wearing our full school uniform and looking neat and tidy sets an excellent tone in the school. It fosters pride in our school and individual appearance and helps ensure children are ready for focused learning. We appreciate your support in ensuring your child is in full school uniform every day. At the beginning of next term we will have a short cross-over period between winter and summer uniform with all children expected to be in their winter uniform by Monday 3 May. Please remember to label all uniform items, particularly your child’s school jacket and school hat.

Snapshot from Marmalade

Pump Up the Jam!

This term in Marmalade, students have been exploring persuasive devices in English lessons. They have also been investigating Australia's government system and identified a member of parliament that they want to write to about a current social issue or law. Let's hope Marmalade can persuade our leaders like Scott Morrison and Gladys Berejiklian to introduce new laws regarding greyhound racing, smoking bans, the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and the gender pay gap. Students are also conveying their understanding of their chosen topic through the creation of an app prototype, using Keynote. Students are hoping to engage and inform the public on their issue. A group of students have designed an app called 'Ocean Quest' that explores the many consequences of ocean pollution and plastic waste. Awesome work boys! We can't wait to see this app on the Apple Store one day.

Kiss n Drop Volunteers wanted!

Can you spare a morning or two to help us manage traffic flow around APPS and assist children in and out of cars safely and quickly? We'd love to hear from you! A high visibility vest can be collected from the office for you to wear as well as two flags to drop in the holes at each end of the Kiss and Drop. Please see the Kiss n Drop roster on the P&C website.
