“Every secret of a writer’s soul, every experience of his life, every quality of his mind, is written large in his works.” — Virginia Woolf Pt council holds popular young writers workshop

The Scarsdale PT Council held its Fall Young Writers' Workshop on Saturday, and Scarsdale Middle School, where the workshop was held, was buzzing with activities, deep thinking, and of course, writing for the third, fourth and fifth graders who attended.

Featured speaker for the event was writer Gabriel Gale, author, along with Lisa Fiedler, of Gabriel Gale's "Ages of Oz: A Dark Descent," and Gabriel Gale's "Ages of Oz: a Fiery Friendship." Both books are young adult fantasy novels, and both Gale and Fiedler led a separate workshop on fantasy writing. The books focus on Oz and witches!

Students also had the opportunity to meet with and learn from award-winning authors, sports writers, journalists, bloggers, illustrators and more. They took part in real-life writing activities in small group settings, and gained a better understanding of a day in the life of a writer.

Workshops on topics that included acting out scenes from books, science writing, journalism, adventure stories, and even writer's block were on tap for students in dozens of different classroom discussions. Other author speakers and presenters included: Wendy Brandes, Sheela Chari, Jason Edwards, Jacqueline Friedland, Barbara Josselsohn, Jennifer Wolf Kam, William Meyer, Helen Perelman, Jessica Resnick-Ault, Ines Rodrigues, and Laura Scott Schaefer.
