Planning and Research

RSPCA- The RSPCA (the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is an organisation that protects all animals in Australia. RSPCA defends their dignity to fight to stop cruelty of all animals. As they offer to shelter, education, medical attention and love as well as they are the animals protectors, carers and guardians. RSPCA take action to victims who have harmed animals and they fight for the humane treatment of all living things. As they believe that behind every animal is a human being who is on need of guidance, encouragement and help. RSPCA rely on the goodwill of our loyal supporters and like-minded members of the community because RSPCA receive less than two per cent of there funding from the government.

Audience

The targeted audience that is intended to be focus on is the loyal supporters, animal lover or anyone who donates to help fund for RSPCA organisation, so basically any gender or age is targeted in the diary cover. People who live in Australia as this is a RSPCA Australia Diary Cover

Purpose

The motive for this diary cover is that it provides the on going supporters with a token of appreciation as a result making them feel that apart of the community of the organisation and giving a sense of pride and belonging within the RSPCA association.

Context

The diary will be mainly used within the educational or work environment for planning key dates and important notes but may also be used for personal use, for example general use for birthday date and weekly scheduling.

Constraints

The constraints that will or might occur in the process of this diary cover would be: Innovative/ include "year 2018" within the design of diary cover/ diary cover for charity/ 210mm x 296mm (landscape)/ 3mm bleed/crop marks/ spiral bound/ CYMK/ high resolution PDF/ 300 dpi/ 8 Mb file/ Logo has to be high resolution/ including these design element and principles- e.g impact, creativity, style and so on/ culturally awareness & inappropriate language, offensive, racist and sexist or discriminatory designs/ keeping the visual identity guidelines/ No copyright images/not using any animal skin or fur/ unisex design/ family friendly.

____________________________________________________________________________

audience

The targeted audience that is focused on for this dairy cover is any person who has a passion for animals and who funds/donates to help fund the RSPCA. Trends that might be considered in the planning of the diary cover would be incorporating all species of animals or using the animal prints.

products

The main competitors in this type of category would be Animal Welfare League and World Wildlife Fund (WWF). As these organisations also believe that all animals should be protected and cared for when in need. Furthermore, some people might donate money to their cause instead of the RSPCA, which is a threat to the organisation as their funds mainly come from donations. Current merchandise/ items that can be purchased at the world for pets can be listed below as well as more on their website, here are just some examples of what they have. From the products that have been purchased on the website all profits helps the finding of RSPCA Australia.

INSPIRATION- Photos

Animals firewatch by Arianna Ciuni

The reason why I am inspired by Ciuni designs is by how she created the animals in in their nature environment in a creative way within inside of the animal.

Negative yet positive by Bodea Daniel

The reason why I am inspired by Daniel's designs by how manipulates the negative space to create interest within the images as a result effective use of the principles and elements of design.

Image 1: The elements that would suit this design would be: Shape (different variation of lengths and widths of squares to create contrast). Colours (apply to the tradition trademark colour e.g green and blue but also allow other contrasting or complementary colours.) Texture (texture would be a well balancing element to my design as it will enable the image to have more depth and create interests and contrast to the viewers or customers). Type (type/font will be the traditional logo font and logo that they use in their current designs). Unity (is principle that will be used in the design for the diary as it will be a college of small and large images that connect together as if it's a jig-saw puzzle). Emphasis/focal point (photo of animals that are traditionally hours hold pets in which viewers will connect to a bit more compared to wilder animals.) Balance (the design will include the asymmetrical as it is a different approach to create interest. )

Image 2: The elements that would suit this design would be: Space (will be the main component to this design as the main element is positive and negative space within the design). Colours (apply to the tradition trademark colour: green and blue but also allow other contrasting or complementary colours e.g yellow.) Balance (would be a well balancing element to my design as it will enable the image to have more depth and create interests and contrast to the viewers or customers). Type  (type/font will be the traditional logo font and logo that they use in their current designs). Emphasis/focal point (focus point in the image is animals that is going to be in the negative space of the image). Texture (In the printing process the design will have a embosser to create more depth within the image to create the illusion of be animal being further away). Proximity (including the logo and "diary 2018" close to each other can create another focal point in the design).

Concept development and refinement

Original watercolour image

Testing/experimenting

Watercolours effect using stamp tool and gradient effect

With this experiment I incorporated design elements such as texture and colour. Reason why I wrote texture was I used canvas paper which gave the image/stamp a grainy/spotty effect which helps break the gradient and doesn't make so noticeable. As well as using colour (colour gradient) to include the right colours that is trade-mark to RSPCA.

The only problem that I can take away from this experiment is that the different colours in the original image does not emphases the different colours that I included and did not show on the stamp. My solution is to try again and make sure the colours are really bold and the light and black spots are easily identified in a image. As well as meeting the brief in terms of following the element of design as well as obeying the colours that are allowed. Furthermore, yellow, blue and green are usually uni-sex colours so it is not applying/targeting any genders or age.

Final Design

I am really happy with my final design, as I accomplished everything I wanted to achieve throughout this assessment. I incorporated all aspects and requirements that is needed to make this diary cover for example including space for the spiral connection, organisation logo, diary cover template and much more. I have also incorporated elements and principe of design within my work. Which include: Space is the main component to this design as the main element is positive and negative space within the design. Colours is applied to the tradition trademark colour: green and blue but also allow other contrasting or complementary colours e.g yellow. Balance is also achieved by the images having more depth and create interests and contrast to the viewers or customers. Type will be the traditional logo font and logo that they use in their current designs. Emphasis/focal point in the design will be the animals that are in the negative space of the design. Texture with be provided in the printing process the design, as it will have a embosser to create more depth within the image to create the illusion of be writing is coming out of the design instead of the animals, I have changed the embosser effect to the font from previous draft. Proximity including the logo and "diary 2018" close to each other can create another focal point in the design. Overall I am really happy with my design and I hope my client agrees as well.
