Internet Availability By: Griffin Weathers

Background info

Who invented the Internet?

Robert E. Kahn and Vint Cerf invented internet communications (not just the internet) around the world in the 1970's. They developed Transmission Control Protocol and Internet Protocol, or TCP/IP, a communications model that set standards for how data could be transmitted between multiple networks.

What was the Internet used for at first?

One of the first types of the Internet was ARPANET. It was made with the help of some inventors and it was funded by the U.S. Department of Defense. It allowed multiple computers to communicate on a single network.

Where was the Internet invented?

The first ideas of the interent were from the 1950's and was created later on by the United States, United Kingdom, and France.

When was the Internet invented?

First, the history of the Internet begins in the 1950's with the development of computers came the idea of Internet. In the 60's and 70's, packet switching networks such as ARPANET, NPL network, CYCLADES, etc. were developed, which all lead to the idea that all computers could be lead to the same network, which is the Internet. Finally in the early 80's, ARPANET (most popular packet switch) was expanded and funded into the Computer Science Network (CSNET) and after more tests and attempts, they created in 1991 the supercomputer, which will have Internet. And now we still use Internet today, but it's upgraded with new gaming platforms, devices, etc. all with internet.

Why was the Internet invented?

The Internet was created essentially to enable communications among connected systems at the local, state, national and international levels. Internet changed the world today especially with the amount of people that have social media and/or just Internet on your phone, iPad, or computer.

How was the Internet invented?

The Internet may seem very large and it seems impossible for someone to have started it, but it's easier then you think. In the beginning, people from around the world would come to different laboratories in certain areas and work on the base of the Internet. After ARPANET, they wanted it to more mobile, to be around the world instead of small areas, so they communicated to each other to find fixed links and tried to upgrade what they had. After some years, Vert and Kahn came to the field and made the Internet accessible to around the world.

Impacts of the Internet

What impact did internet availability have on history?

The creation of the internet changed the lives of many people. From connecting to a few computers in a small room and having them communicate to each other to now having iMessage group chats that send messages in a blink of an eye (unless you have bad wifi...), the internet has changed greatly for the better for decades now. The internet has helped in many ways around the world and in the end it's been a huge impact from the start

What events or changes did the internet do in society?

The internet has changed our society back then and even today. When the internet first got big and working, people had to no longer transport messages on paper or anything like that, they could get instant feedback to anything that had happened around the world. For example, leaders around the world could now contact each other to see what's going on with trade here or war there, it was pretty helpful. Today, lots of industries and specific places even can have fast speed wifi, we even have internet in our own homes! Without the internet, we would be the same now as we were back in the early 1900's.

Why is the internet meaningful in history?

It is meaningful because it changed the way of living forever around the world. I've already explained it, but without the internet, we would be pretty much nowhere in life, so it is pretty important.
